EDD: Impossible to reach anyone on phone. How to actually get unemployment money?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble getting my unemployment money. I've been trying to reach out to the unemployment office but it's been impossible to get through. I've tried calling multiple times but no luck. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do to finally get your money? I'm getting desperate here and could really use some advice.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat a few months ago. It's like they purposely make it hard to reach them! Have you tried calling right when they open? That sometimes worked for me.

Yeah, I've tried that too. No luck 😞 It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call 5 minutes before they open. Sometimes the lines open early and you can get in before the rush.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I was desperate enough to try anything. It's legit.

Can you give more details about how it works? Is it just for unemployment or can it be used for other stuff too?

Sure! It works for a bunch of different government agencies and companies. You choose who you want to call, pay the fee, and then their system starts calling and navigating the phone menus. When a real person picks up, it calls your phone. Saved me hours of frustration.

Have you tried reaching out on social media? Sometimes tweeting at them or messaging on Facebook can get a response.

This whole system is so broken. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through hoops just to get the money we're entitled to. The government needs to fix this ASAP!

For real. I've been dealing with this nonsense for months. It's a full-time job just trying to get your benefits!

Here's what worked for me after weeks of trying: 1. Call exactly at 8:01 AM when they open. 2. If you get a busy signal, hang up and immediately redial. 3. Keep doing this for at least 30 minutes. 4. If you get through, DO NOT hang up no matter what. 5. Be prepared with all your info (claim number, ID, etc.) 6. Be polite but firm with the rep. It took me about 3 days of doing this, but I finally got through and got my issue resolved. Good luck!

This is great advice. I'd also add: use multiple phones if you can. I had my cell and landline going at the same time.

Yeah, I've tried that. My issue requires talking to a real person unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I heard they're implementing a new callback system soon. Might be worth waiting for that if you can hold out a bit longer.

This is why we need UBI. The current system is a joke. 🤡

Totally agree. The pandemic really showed how broken everything is.

Have you considered reaching out to your local representative? They sometimes have connections and can help push things through.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a try, thanks!
