Does calling TWC repeatedly actually speed up claim approval? Desperate and broke
I've been waiting for almost 5 weeks on my unemployment claim and still nothing. Status just says 'under review.' I've called maybe 6-7 times but usually get disconnected or can't get through. Someone at church told me his cousin called EVERY SINGLE DAY and suddenly got approved after 3 weeks of calling. Is this actually true? Does constantly bugging them move you up some list? I'm literally down to my last $240 and have rent due next week. Should I just keep calling until someone helps me? I worked at the same restaurant for 5 years before they closed down last month, so I don't understand why this is taking so dang long!

Calling everyday won't technically "speed up" your claim, but it CAN help if there's something specific holding up your claim that you don't know about. I was in the same boat - waiting 6 weeks with status stuck on review. Turns out they needed additional income verification that was never requested through my correspondence inbox! Once I provided that, I was approved in 3 days. So calling CAN help identify issues, but there's no special "squeaky wheel" list.

•Thanks, that makes sense. Do they tell you what's holding things up when you call? I haven't been able to get through to actually talk to anybody yet.

•This is a common misconception. TWC processes claims in order received with priority based on filing date and complexity, not call frequency. What likely happened is your claim reached its place in the queue around the same time you started calling, creating the impression that calling accelerated the process.

Former TWC employee here. Calling repeatedly doesn't speed up claim processing itself - claims are worked in order based on filing date and complexity. HOWEVER, calling can absolutely help when your claim has an unresolved issue that needs additional information. Many claims get stuck because of missing wages, identity verification problems, or separation reason discrepancies that never get communicated to the claimant. A good agent can spot these issues and help resolve them. The key is actually getting through to a knowledgeable agent. Instead of calling repeatedly and getting disconnected, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you skip the busy signals and connects you directly with TWC agents. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh I recommend calling between 1-3pm when wait times are typically shorter.

•Is that Claimyr thing legit? Sounds too good to be true if TWC phones are always busy.

•Yes, it's legitimate. They use technology to continuously dial TWC until they get through, then connect you when they do. Many people on this forum have reported success with it when they couldn't get through otherwise. Worth trying if you've been stuck for weeks with no progress.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIGGED!!! They DELIBERATELY keep you waiting hoping you'll give up or find a job before they have to pay you!!! I waited 9 WEEKS and suddenly got approved THE DAY AFTER I emailed my state representative. COINCIDENCE??? I THINK NOT!!! Try contacting your rep instead of wasting time with their stupid phone system that never works!!!!!

•Contacting your state rep can definitely help expedite claims that are stuck in the system for an extended period. It's not because the system is rigged, but because reps can connect with TWC liaisons who have more direct access to claim information. It's a legitimate escalation path when normal channels fail.

My claim got stuck becuse they were missing my last paycheck from work. I had to upload my final paystub through the portal and then call to tell them I did it. Took like 4 days after that and I was approved. maybe check if they're missing something?

•I'll definitely check my correspondence box again but there's nothing in there asking for documents. I wonder if they need something but never requested it? This is so frustrating!

In my experience working with multiple TWC claims (I help family members file), calling strategically can help, but not due to frequency. Here's what works: 1. Call and specifically ask if there are any "pending issues" on your claim 2. Ask if any documents or information are needed but weren't requested 3. Request a specific timeframe for when you should expect a determination 4. Get the agent's ID number and document the call date/time Many claims stall because of simple issues that aren't communicated to claimants. Sometimes it's a wage verification issue, sometimes it's an employer response disagreement, and sometimes it's just a backlog. If you're at 5 weeks, that's definitely longer than the standard 21-day processing guideline. I'd call specifically to find out why.

•This is really helpful advice. I didn't know there was a 21-day processing guideline. Tomorrow I'm going to try calling first thing in the morning and ask specifically about pending issues. Thank you!

my brother and i both filed on same day after our factory shutdown. he called like crazy and got approved in 3 weeks. i didnt call at all and took 6 weeks. so maybe there is something to it lol

•The difference in approval time could be due to many factors - different wage verification needs, different separation reasons provided by your employer, or even just your claims being assigned to different examiners with different workloads. Correlation isn't causation in these cases.

Have you checked your correspondence inbox everyday? Sometimes they request additional information but don't notify you by email or text. Also, what does your claim status specifically say - just "under review" or something more detailed?

Javier Morales
•It just says "Claim under review" with no other details. I checked my correspondence inbox again and there's just the initial claim confirmation from 5 weeks ago. Nothing asking for more info. Should I upload my pay stubs anyway even though they haven't asked?

•I wouldn't upload documents they haven't requested since they might get lost in the system. Instead, try to reach an agent who can tell you specifically what's causing the delay. It could be something as simple as your former employer not responding to their inquiry (which happens a lot with restaurant closures).

Update on your situation: Have you been requesting payment every two weeks even though your claim hasn't been approved yet? This is CRITICAL - you must keep requesting payment on your assigned days even during the review period. Many claimants don't realize this and it causes further delays.

•Yes, I've been requesting payment every 2 weeks. The system lets me do it but then just says payment is pending claim review. At least I'm doing something right!

I'm going through the exact same thing - filed 4 weeks ago and still stuck on "under review" with no communication from TWC. Reading through these comments, it sounds like the key is actually getting through to an agent to find out what specific issue is holding up the claim. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning and ask specifically about pending issues like Omar suggested. Also might look into that Claimyr service Malik mentioned since I've been getting busy signals every time I call. It's so stressful when you're running out of money and don't know why there's a delay. Thanks everyone for the helpful advice - at least now I know I'm not alone in this situation!

•You're definitely not alone! I'm in week 5 now and feeling the same stress. The advice about asking specifically for "pending issues" really caught my attention too. I've been getting disconnected every time I call, so I might also try that Claimyr thing. Let me know how your call goes tomorrow - maybe we can figure this out together. It's crazy how many of us are stuck in the same situation with restaurant/business closures. Hang in there!

I feel your pain - I'm dealing with something similar right now. Been waiting 4 weeks and also down to my last couple hundred dollars. After reading all these responses, it sounds like the most important thing is actually getting through to talk to someone who can tell you what's specifically holding up your claim. The former TWC employee's advice about calling between 1-3pm makes sense, and I'm definitely going to try that Claimyr service if I keep getting busy signals. It's frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops when we're already stressed about money, but at least there are some concrete steps we can take. Keep us posted on how it goes - rooting for you!
