Can TWC pay me for weeks I requested when ineligible after becoming eligible?

I'm really confused about my benefit situation and hoping someone can help. I requested payment for several weeks back when my claim was still pending, and TWC determined I wasn't eligible at that time. Now my eligibility issues got resolved (after appealing a quit with good cause), but when I requested payment again, I had to serve my waiting week and didn't get paid. What happens to those earlier weeks I requested when I was considered ineligible? Will TWC automatically pay me for those weeks now that my eligibility is confirmed, or do I need to request those specific weeks again somehow? The payment request system only lets me claim current weeks going forward. I'm afraid I might lose those earlier weeks completely. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Those weeks don't just disappear! As long as those weeks were within your benefit year and you actually completed the payment requests for them at the time, TWC should review those weeks now that your eligibility issue is resolved. However, you'll probably need to call them directly to have them release those payments. The online system isn't great at handling retroactive eligibility situations. I went through something similar last year and had to contact them to get my back weeks processed.

Thanks for the info! So I definitely need to call them? I've been trying for 3 days and keep getting busy signals or disconnected after waiting.

Yes, I did get a determination letter about 2 weeks ago saying my separation issue was resolved. That's when I started requesting payments again.

The previous weeks you requested won't automatically process in the system. TWC's computer system is programmed to only pay eligible weeks going forward from when your eligibility is established. Those previous weeks require manual intervention by a TWC agent who can see your full claim history and release those payments. Make sure you have the dates of all those previous payment requests ready when you call. They'll need to look at each specific week to determine if you met all other eligibility requirements (work search, etc.) during those weeks as well. If you didn't complete proper work searches during those weeks, they still might not pay you.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I did do my work searches every week and documented them, so that shouldn't be an issue. It's just so frustrating trying to reach someone at TWC.

Had the EXACT same issue back in Jan. Be careful though - sometimes they'll release those back weeks but forget to remove the 'waiting week' status, so you might only get paid for some of them. Double-check everything they tell you!

Oh that's good to know! I'll make sure to ask specifically about the waiting week when I finally get through to someone.

Try using Claimyr to get through to TWC. I was in your exact situation with back weeks needing to be released after my eligibility was fixed, and I couldn't get through for over a week. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to a TWC agent in about 25 minutes who processed all my back payments on the spot. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh They basically call TWC for you and then connect you when they get through. Saved me from losing those weeks of benefits.

It's legit. The TWC phone system is just completely overwhelmed and their callback system never worked for me. This just helps you skip the busy signals. You still talk directly to TWC yourself.

LISTEN CAREFULLY - TWC has a **policy** that you only have 14 days after your eligibility determination letter to call and request backpayment for those weeks!!!! If you wait too long they can deny releasing those weeks. Happened to me and I lost over $3000 in benefits that I deserved just because I waited too long to call after my appeal was approved. The TWC website doesn't tell you this ANYWHERE which is so FRUSTRATING!!! Call them immediately and specifically mention you want to request backpayment for weeks previously requested while ineligible!!!

Oh my god, thank you for telling me this! My determination letter came 2 weeks ago so I need to call TODAY. I had no idea there was a time limit!

While there are indeed time sensitivities with TWC processes, the 14-day limit typically applies to appealing determinations, not necessarily requesting back payments. However, it's always better to address these issues promptly. The earlier you contact them after becoming eligible, the smoother the process tends to be.

I'm dealing with almost the same thing right now! My separation issue just got resolved but I'm worried about all those weeks I requested before. Has anyone been able to contact TWC this week? I've been trying for days with no luck.

I'm still trying to get through too. I might try that Claimyr service the other person mentioned because I'm getting desperate. It seems like everyone is having trouble getting through directly.

Update: I finally got through to TWC this morning! They are processing my back weeks and said I should see payment in 2-3 business days. The agent confirmed that they can go back and pay weeks I previously requested once eligibility is established, but it does require them to manually review and release those payments. The important thing is that you must have completed your payment requests for those weeks at the time, even if you were ineligible then. If you missed requesting any weeks, those cannot be recovered. Also, for anyone else in this situation, make sure you ask specifically about your waiting week. In my case, since I had already served it during my initial ineligible period, they credited me for it now that I'm eligible.

They're paying me for 5 weeks total - the 4 weeks I requested while ineligible plus my waiting week. The agent said it will all come as one lump sum deposit.

Always document EVERYTHING with TWC! Get the name of every agent you speak with, confirmation numbers for calls, and take screenshots of your payment requests. Their system is so bureaucratic that having documentation is your only protection when things go wrong.

That's great advice. I just started keeping notes of everyone I talk to with dates and times. Better late than never I guess!
