PA UC still in review status after 3 weeks - normal wait time?
My husband got laid off from his construction job three weeks ago and filed for PA unemployment the same day. His claim has been stuck in 'review status' since then with no updates. We're getting really worried because rent is coming up and we have no idea if his claim will be approved or when he might see any money. The website doesn't give any indication of why it's taking so long or what 'review status' even means. Is this normal? How long are claims taking to process these days? Anyone else experiencing delays?

ya that seems pretty normal rn. my claim took like 5 weeks to get approved in january. the system is backed up or whatever. tell him to keep filing his weekly claims even tho nothings approved yet!

•Thanks for the info. Do you know if he'll get back pay for all the weeks he's filing while waiting for approval?

Unfortunately, PA UC claims are taking anywhere from 3-6 weeks for initial review right now. Make sure your husband is uploading all required documents (ID verification, separation info, etc.) and completing his weekly certifications while waiting. If the claim has an 'open issue,' that's different from 'review status' and might require additional follow-up. He should be able to see any specific issues in his dashboard.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation. I'll double check to make sure he's uploaded everything. There's no open issue showing on his dashboard, just says 'review status' so I guess we just keep waiting...

FIVE WEEKS AND COUNTING FOR ME!!! This is ridiculous how they expect people to survive while they take their sweet time reviewing claims!!!! I've got bills piling up and NO INCOME. I've called the UC number 37 times this week and never got through to a human being. The system is BROKEN!!!

I was in the same boat last month - claim stuck in review for nearly 4 weeks. After trying to call for days and getting nowhere, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a PA UC agent. You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent was able to see there was a verification issue they needed to clear up, and my claim was processed within 2 days after that call. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone to get things moving.

Review status typically means they're verifying employment details with your husband's former employer. By law, employers have 7 days to respond to UC requests, but many take longer. If it's been more than 21 days, your husband has the right to request an escalation. Make sure he continues filing weekly claims during this time - he'll receive all back payments once approved. For reference, the current average processing time is 23-27 days for claims without issues and 35-40 days for claims with employer verification issues.

•That's really helpful information, thank you! How would he request an escalation? Is that something he can do through the website or does he need to call?

For escalation, he'll need to speak with a representative. He can: 1) Call the UC Service Center at 1-888-313-7284 (best to call early morning), 2) Use the messaging system in his dashboard to specifically request escalation, or 3) Schedule a call-back through the PA CareerLink office. When communicating, he should mention that it's been more than 21 days since filing and request status acceleration due to financial hardship.

•HAHAHAHA 'call the service center'?? Good luck with that! I've been trying for WEEKS and can't get through. The callback feature is a JOKE too - requested one 3 weeks ago and still waiting!!! This system is designed to FAIL US!!

my brother in law had his stuck in review for like 2 months bcuz his employer disputed that he was laid off (they said he quit) so make sure ur husband's employer isn't giving them wrong info. that was last year tho

•Oh that's a good point. I'll have him double check with his former boss to make sure they correctly reported it as a layoff. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just to add to my earlier comment - if your husband filed online, he should verify that his ID.me verification went through properly. Many claims get stuck because of ID verification issues. Also, having him continue to file weekly will ensure he gets all back pay once approved, and it keeps his claim active in the system.

•yeah the ID.me thing caused my claim to get stuck cuz i did it wrong the first time. had to redo it

After seeing all these responses, I highly recommend your husband try to speak directly with an agent. That's the fastest way to find out if there's a specific issue or if it's just in the normal queue. When I finally got through, they found a simple issue that was holding everything up. It's worth the effort to make contact rather than just waiting and hoping.

•You're right, I think he needs to be more proactive about this. He's tried calling a few times but gives up after being on hold. I'll let him know about the Claimyr option you mentioned. At this point, we just need some answers.
