TWC regular unemployment approval timeline - stuck in 'under review' for 2+ weeks
I filed for regular unemployment benefits on July 17 after being let go from my retail management position (reduction in workforce). My claim has been sitting in 'under review' status for over 2 weeks now with zero updates. My former employer already confirmed they won't contest it, so I'm confused about the holdup. I've requested payments twice already, but nothing has been deposited yet because my claim is still pending approval. Is this normal wait time for regular benefits, or should I be worried? My savings are getting dangerously low and rent is due next week. Anyone else experience long approval times recently?

mine took almost 4 weeks to get approved! applied back in May and it was just 'under review' forever. So frustrating esp when bills keep coming. they never tell u why it takes so long either

•Ugh, 4 weeks?? Did you keep requesting payments during that time even though nothing was coming through yet?

The current processing time for regular UI claims is approximately 21-28 days, though it can take longer if there are any issues that require additional verification. Make sure you're completing your payment requests every two weeks even while your claim is under review. Once approved, you'll receive all eligible back payments. Also double-check that you've completed any pending correspondence in your TWC account, as missing a questionnaire can delay the process.

•Thank you for this info! I have been doing my payment requests and there's nothing in my correspondence inbox. I guess I'll just have to be patient, but it's really stressful not knowing when money will come through.

Has anyone called TWC to check on their claim status? I've tried calling like 20 times and ALWAYS get the busy signal. Is there even a point in trying to call them??

•I had the same problem! Busy signals for days then when I finally got through after 100+ calls the rep just told me to "be patient" anyway 🙄

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN BY DESIGN!!!! They make you wait forever hoping you'll give up or get a job before they have to pay you. My claim took 6 WEEKS to approve and ONLY GOT APPROVED after I contacted my state representative's office. DO THIS NOW, don't wait like I did. Call your state rep and explain your situation - they have special contacts at TWC who can push your claim through.

•That's a good idea about contacting my state rep. I'll look up their info today. Six weeks is insane - I can't wait that long!

There are a few things that commonly delay regular unemployment claims: 1. Wage verification issues (if your employer didn't report wages correctly) 2. Separation reason investigation (even if your employer won't contest it, TWC still verifies) 3. Work search registration (make sure you're registered on WorkInTexas.com) 4. Identity verification backlog (especially if you're a first-time claimant) In my experience helping claimants, most approvals are happening within 3-4 weeks right now unless there's a specific issue. If you hit the 4-week mark with no movement, that's when I'd escalate by calling or getting help from your state representative's office as someone suggested.

•Thank you for breaking it down like this. I'm registered on WorkInTexas and completed my ID.me verification when I first applied. My employer confirmed they submitted the separation paperwork. I guess I'm in that typical 3-4 week window still, but it's nerve-wracking not knowing what's happening behind the scenes.

•It appears in both places - you'll get a physical letter in the mail, but it will also show up in your TWC correspondence inbox online. The online version typically appears 1-2 days before the physical mail arrives.

My sister just went through this last month. Her claim was under review for almost 3 weeks then suddenly got approved with no explanation. She got all her back payments at once two days later. Don't forget to keep submitting your payment requests every two weeks even while waiting for approval!

•That's what I'm hoping happens for me too - just sudden approval and back payments. Did your sister do anything special to move things along or did it just resolve on its own?

•Nope, she just waited it out. She did call a few times but never got through to anyone. One day she just logged in and saw it had changed from 'under review' to 'approved' - no explanation for what took so long.

Just wanted to update that based on recent reports from other claimants, TWC seems to be experiencing higher than normal processing times for regular unemployment claims right now. I've heard from several people who waited 4-5 weeks for approval in July and August. If you're approaching week 4 with no changes, that's when I'd recommend trying to reach someone by phone or through your state representative.

•Really appreciate this update. I'm approaching week 3 now, so I'll give it another week before I start really pushing for answers. Just wish TWC would be more transparent about these delays!
