PA UC says my employer hasn't reported wages - how to fix this error?
I just submitted my initial UC claim yesterday and got a weird message saying the employer I entered 'hasn't reported wages' to PA Unemployment. I worked at Johnson Manufacturing for 8 months (laid off 2 weeks ago) and definitely paid taxes! My W2 shows everything. Is this going to mess up my claim? Do I need to contact my former employer about this? The PA UC system doesn't give me any instructions on what to fix or who to contact. Really stressed because rent is due in 3 weeks and I've already applied to 12 jobs with no responses yet.

This is actually a common issue with PA UC claims. There are a few potential reasons why your wages aren't showing up:\n\n1. Your employer might be behind on their quarterly wage reporting\n2. Your employer might have reported you under a slightly different name or SSN\n3. The system might be experiencing a delay in matching your info\n\nYou should upload your W2 and last paystub to your dashboard as proof of employment. Then call UC to explain the situation. They can manually verify your wages and update your claim.

Thanks for the info. I have my W2 and last 3 paystubs, but where exactly do I upload them? I don't see that option anywhere on the dashboard. And calling UC seems impossible - I've been trying for 2 days and just get busy signals or disconnected.

Did you have to keep filing weekly claims while waiting for it to be resolved? I'm worried about messing something up.

You need to reach a UC representative to resolve this. Here's what I did when I had a similar issue in January:\n\n1. Call your employer's HR department first and confirm they've submitted your wage information correctly to PA\n2. Have your W2, paystubs, and exact employment dates ready\n3. On the UC dashboard, go to \

using a service to reach unemployment???!! that's ridiculous that we even need such a thing. the whole system is broken when people have to PAY just to talk to someone about their benefits. this state is a JOKE

When I had this problem, I emailed my employer AND called UC (took about 20 attempts to get through). Turns out my employer had reported my wages under my maiden name, but I filed under my married name. Such a simple mistake but it held up my claim for almost 6 weeks!!!! \n\nDEFINITELY keep filing your weekly claims during this time. UC told me that was the #1 mistake people make - they stop filing weekly while waiting for issues to resolve. You want those weeks ready to be paid once they fix the wage issue.

Six weeks?! I can't wait that long! But thanks for the tip about continuing weekly claims - I wouldn't have known to do that.

Hmm, I don't think so? I got regular paychecks with taxes taken out, not 1099 forms. But I'll definitely ask HR about this too when I call them.

Quick update - just make sure you're using the right employer name exactly as it appears on your W2. Some companies operate under multiple names (like \

I finally got through to the UC folks this morning, after calling LITERALLY 78 times since Monday (I kept count lol). The person I talked to was actually super helpful. She said wage discrepancies are their most common issue right now because of some database update they did in January 2025. She manually added my wages after I emailed her my paystubs. Don't give up!!!

78 calls?? That's insane! But glad you got it resolved. I'm at about 30 attempts so far with no luck. I'll keep trying though - it's encouraging to hear they can fix it manually once you get through.

welcome to PA unemployment where nothing works right!!! i had to wait 9 WEEKS for my claim last year because of employer wage issues. the system is completely broken and they don't care about us at all. good luck getting a human on the phone - its literally easier to win the lottery!!!

9 weeks is terrifying. I can't go that long without income. Did you have to go through an appeal process or did it eventually just get fixed?

UPDATE: I finally spoke with someone at UC! Called my employer's HR first thing this morning and they confirmed they DID report my wages, but under their parent company name \

That's great news Diego! Really glad you got it sorted out. For anyone else dealing with this issue, your experience highlights a key point - always check if your employer operates under different company names or has a parent company. This seems to be a really common cause of the "wages not reported" error. It's also worth noting that many larger companies have separate payroll entities or use third-party payroll services that might report under different names than what you see on your actual paychecks. Definitely something to ask HR about when you call. Hope your claim processes smoothly from here and you start getting benefits soon!

•This is such valuable advice! I'm actually dealing with a similar wage reporting issue right now and hadn't even thought to check if my employer uses different company names for payroll. My paystubs just say one thing but who knows what they actually filed with the state. @23909c3d58a1 Diego, thanks for sharing your whole journey with this - it's really helpful to see the step-by-step process you went through. The fact that it was something as simple as a company name mismatch gives me hope that my issue might have an easy fix too. @cfe58c2efb8d Malik, your point about third-party payroll services is spot on. I think my company uses ADP or something similar, so they might be reporting under that name instead of my actual employer's name. Definitely calling HR first thing tomorrow morning!

Just want to add another potential cause that hasn't been mentioned yet - if you started working for your employer late in a quarter, they might not have included you in their quarterly wage report until the following quarter. For example, if you started in mid-December, your wages might not show up until they file their Q1 report. Also, some employers (especially smaller ones) sometimes file their wage reports late or make corrections after the initial filing. This can cause temporary mismatches in the UC system even when everything is actually correct. @23909c3d58a1 Diego - really glad you got it resolved! Your experience will definitely help others dealing with the same issue. The parent company name thing is so common but not something most people would think to check.
