PA UC reviewing my claim because I forgot to report one day of election work training - what now?
I'm stressing about my unemployment claim right now! I did one day of paid training for election work back in early March, and they paid me about $145 for that day. The problem is I completely forgot to report it on my weekly certification for that week. I didn't work any other days after that training day - it was literally just that one single day of work. Now my claim is under review and I'm freaking out. Will they disqualify me for fraud or something? It was an honest mistake! Do I need to contact them to explain what happened or just wait for them to finish reviewing? Has anyone dealt with something similar before?

Don't panic, this happens more often than you think. You should definitely call PA UC and explain the situation before they make a determination. It's considered an 'unreported earnings' issue, but since it was just one day and you're being proactive, they'll likely just deduct that amount from your benefits for that week and maybe assess a small penalty. The key is to contact them ASAP rather than waiting for them to complete the review.

•Thanks for the advice! I've been trying to call them all morning but keep getting busy signals or disconnected. I'll keep trying though!

I went through something similar with PA UC last year when I forgot to report a day I worked at a catering event. The system is SO CONFUSING!!! They kept me on hold for 3 HOURS when I finally got through, and then had the NERVE to tell me I should have been more careful!!! Like we're all supposed to be unemployment experts or something?!?! 🤬 They ended up taking back one week's payment from me and I had to wait almost a month for my claim to start paying again. THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST US!!!!

•That sounds awful! This is why I'm always triple checking my hours before submitting anything. Better safe than sorry.

After trying to get through to PA unemployment for days about a similar issue, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. Saved me so much time and frustration! They have a video that shows how it works here: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The agent was able to help me explain my situation and document that it was an honest mistake. They told me exactly what would happen with my claim and when I could expect it to be resolved.

•It worked for me! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to call for 3 days straight. Got through to an actual UC rep who helped resolve my issue.

This is what you need to know about your situation: 1. This is considered an "unreported earnings" issue. It's different from fraud because fraud requires intent to deceive. Simple mistakes like forgetting to report a single day of work usually don't qualify as fraud. 2. PA UC will likely determine that you received an overpayment for that specific week only. They'll calculate how much your benefit would have been reduced had you properly reported the $145, and you'll need to repay that difference. 3. There might be a small penalty (15-30% of the overpayment amount) depending on whether they classify it as a "fault" or "non-fault" overpayment. 4. Your best move is to contact them ASAP to explain that it was an accidental omission. This often helps get it classified as "non-fault" which means smaller or no penalties. 5. Current wait times are indeed extremely long, so prepare to be persistent or consider a service to help you get through. Don't worry too much - they won't disqualify your entire claim for a single mistake like this. It'll get resolved.

•6 WEEKS???! No, I don't have enough savings to last that long. This is really stressing me out now.

To clarify what others have said - yes, there will be a review, but cases involving a single day of unreported work with a reasonable explanation tend to be resolved faster than complex fraud cases. The key is getting through to an agent who can document your explanation in the system. Once you manage to speak with someone, ask them to make a note that it was an accidental omission of a single day of work training. Also request information about when you can expect a determination. If they give you a timeframe, mark that date and follow up if you don't hear anything. If your benefits are currently paused, also ask if you should continue filing weekly claims during the review period (you should, but it's good to confirm).

•Update: I finally got through to someone at PA UC! The rep said it was a minor issue and added notes to my account explaining it was an honest mistake. They said my claim should be processed within 7-10 days and I'll just have to repay the difference for that one week. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and advice!

•That's great news! Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims while waiting for the determination to be finalized.

So glad to hear you got through and everything worked out! This is exactly why I always tell people to contact PA UC directly when these situations come up - most of the time they're understanding about honest mistakes. Your experience shows that while the phone lines are frustrating, persistence pays off. Thanks for updating us on the outcome - it'll be helpful for anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation!

•This is such a relief to see! I'm actually in a really similar situation right now - I forgot to report a small consulting gig I did last month and my claim just went under review yesterday. Reading about your experience gives me hope that it'll work out if I can just get through to someone. The waiting and not knowing is the worst part! Did you use the regular PA UC phone line or did you end up trying that Claimyr service someone mentioned?
