PA UC claim stuck in investigation for 6+ weeks despite fast track - anyone else waiting this long?
My husband lost his job at the manufacturing plant back in March after they restructured the department. He filed his PA UC claim on March 15th and got the financial determination letter about a week later saying he qualifies for $462/week. But his claim status has been stuck in 'under investigation' for over 6 weeks now! The UC rep we finally reached last week said it was 'fast tracked' but nothing has changed. We're getting really desperate since our savings are almost gone and rent is due next week. Has anyone else experienced such a long wait even after being 'fast tracked'? Is there anything we can do to move this along? We've already uploaded all the documents they requested through the portal.

•8 weeks?! That's terrible. Did you do anything special to finally get it approved or did it just randomly process one day?

The "fast track" thing is such a joke. My claim was under investigation for 9 weeks earlier this year. Every time I called they said it was "being processed" or "expedited" but NOTHING happened until I contacted my state representative's office. They have special liaisons who can actually get results. I had my claim approved literally 4 days after my state rep's office got involved. Don't wait - reach out to them ASAP!

•Thank you so much for this advice! I didn't even think about contacting our state rep. Going to look up their contact info right now.

•This is solid advice. State reps can definitely help speed things up with PA UC claims. Their offices deal with this stuff all the time.

Has your husband's former employer responded to the claim? Sometimes the long delays are because the employer is disputing something or hasn't responded. If they're contesting the reason for separation, investigations can take forever. You might want to check if there's an "open issue" listed anywhere on his dashboard - that usually gives you a hint about what's holding things up.

•Yes, it does say "open issue" but when we click on it, there's no explanation. His employer shouldn't be contesting anything since it was a department restructure and several people were let go at the same time. I'll have him call them tomorrow to see if they've responded to PA UC yet.

I had an identical situation with my claim last month, and I was going absolutely crazy trying to get through to someone at PA UC. After two weeks of constant busy signals and dropped calls, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. They got me connected to a UC rep in about 20 minutes, and the agent was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim. Turned out there was a wage verification issue that needed to be manually reviewed. The rep expedited it for real this time, and my payments started a week later. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

•I've never heard of this service before. The constant busy signals have been driving us crazy. I'll definitely check this out if we can't get through again by Friday. Thanks for sharing!

•Is this legit? Sounds kinda sketchy to pay someone just to make a phone call for you. No offense but why not just keep calling?

•It's definitely legit - they don't make the call for you, they just get you in the queue and then transfer you directly to UC. After trying to call on my own for two weeks straight with no luck, it was worth it to me. But sure, you can keep calling too if you prefer.

•I appreciate the perspective. Good to know it's not just us facing these long wait times. The uncertainty is the worst part - if we knew exactly when it would be resolved, at least we could plan accordingly.

Here's what you should do right now: 1. Contact your state representative's office as someone mentioned 2. Make sure ALL requested documentation is uploaded (sometimes they need additional info but don't notify you) 3. Check that your husband's employer has responded - if they haven't, that's likely the holdup 4. Request an "escalation" specifically when you talk to a UC rep (use that exact word) 5. If your financial situation is dire, check if you qualify for emergency assistance through PA DHS while waiting I work in HR and help employees with UC issues frequently. These steps usually get things moving.

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I just contacted our state rep's office and they're sending us a form to fill out so they can intervene. We'll definitely use the word "escalation" when we get through to UC again. I didn't know about emergency assistance through DHS - I'll look into that today. Really appreciate your help!

Ohhhh honey, welcome to PA unemployment hell. I waited 11 WEEKS last year before my claim was finally approved. The system is absolutely broken. Call every single day, multiple times. And document EVERYTHING - who you talked to, ticket numbers, what they promised. You'll need it when they inevitably lose track of your case.

•THIS! Document everything! I had to reference previous call ID numbers to prove I'd been given contradictory information by different reps. The system is a mess, but having detailed records of every interaction helped me finally get my claim approved.

my neighbor had to wait like 10 weeks but he got all the backpay at once so maybe that will happen 4 ur husband too

•That's reassuring that at least the backpay should eventually come through. It's just hard to pay bills with money we don't have yet.

UPDATE: For anyone finding this thread with similar issues, here are the current (2025) most common reasons for extended investigations: 1. Employer separation dispute (most common) 2. Wage verification discrepancies 3. Work authorization verification 4. Multiple employer issues 5. Prior overpayment flags If you can identify which one might apply to your situation, you can address it specifically when you call. Make sure to use the exact issue terminology when speaking with representatives.

•UPDATE: We finally got the claim approved! It took exactly 7 weeks total. For anyone else dealing with this - we did three things that seemed to help: 1) Contacted our state rep who submitted an inquiry, 2) Used Claimyr to finally get through to a person at UC who escalated the claim, and 3) Had my husband contact his former employer who confirmed they had already responded to PA UC. The money hit our account yesterday including all back weeks. So relieved! Thanks everyone for your advice and support!
