PA UC claim sitting for 5 weeks with no updates - what can I do?

I applied for PA unemployment back on June 3rd and it's now July 10th. I've heard absolutely NOTHING from them. No approval, no denial, no requests for more info - just silence. I check my dashboard every day and it just says 'pending'. I've tried calling at least 20 times but can't get through to anyone. Sent messages through the portal that no one answers. This is getting ridiculous - my savings are almost gone and I have bills piling up. Is this normal? What am I supposed to do while they take their sweet time? Has anyone else waited this long and eventually heard back?

Same boat here! Filed May 28 and nothing for 6 weeks. My dashboard just says 'pending' with an open issue but doesn't explain what the issue actually is. It's infuriating!!!

Does yours say what the open issue is? Mine just says pending with no explanation. I'm losing my mind here.

An unexplained delay usually means there's an 'open issue' that needs to be resolved before they can process your claim. Common open issues include wage verification, employer disputes, separation reason verification, or identity verification. Check if there's a message in your dashboard that says 'Open Issue' anywhere. Unfortunately, these issues can take 6-8 weeks to resolve right now due to backlog. Make sure you're still filing your weekly certifications even while waiting for the initial determination.

Thanks for explaining. I don't see anything that specifically says 'open issue' anywhere. And yes, I've been doing my weekly claims like clockwork. I'm just worried that I'll suddenly get denied after waiting all this time.

i waited 7 weeks last year. turns out they needed additional info from my employer who was taking their time responding. keep filing weekly!!

Did u ever get backpay for all those weeks you were waiting? I'm really worried about missing my mortgage payment next month if this isn't resolved soon

You need to get through to an actual agent to find out what's causing the delay. There's likely an open issue on your claim that's preventing it from being processed. I was in the same situation and spent weeks trying to call without getting through. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with a PA UC agent after trying for over a month on my own. They got me through to an agent who found my issue was just that they needed to verify my identity, which took 2 minutes to fix. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Once I got through to someone, my claim was processed within 3 days and I received all my back payments.

I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

Yes, it worked for me. They basically keep calling for you and then connect you when they get through. The UC rep I spoke with said my claim had a simple identity verification flag that was just sitting there because no one had reviewed it yet. Once she cleared it, everything went through within days.

I tried this too and it worked. The wait was so much better than spending all day trying to get through myself. Agent told me my employer contested my claim but didn't provide any evidence, so they approved it right away.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!!! They hope you'll just go away if they ignore you long enough. I had to contact my state representative's office after waiting NINE WEEKS last year. Magically my claim was processed 3 days after their office made a call. DON'T TRUST THE SYSTEM TO WORK ON ITS OWN!!!!!

That's a good idea. I didn't even think about contacting my state rep. I'll try that if I can't get through on the phone this week.

make sure ur doing ur work search activities every week even while waiting. I didn't realize I needed to do this during the waiting period and almost got disqualified for those weeks. You need at least 2 work search activities each week even before ur approved.

omg I didn't know this!!! I haven't been doing the work search because I thought that started after approval. Am I screwed now???

You need to be doing work search activities for each week you claim, even during the initial waiting period. However, if you haven't been doing them, you should start immediately and document everything going forward. When you speak with a representative, explain that you weren't aware of the requirement. In some cases, they may allow you to retroactively report your job search activities or may waive the requirement for the initial weeks if there was confusion.

Thank you! I'm going to start right away and keep detailed records of everything. Hopefully they'll understand.

I had almost the same situation in April. After trying for weeks to get through i managed to talk to someone who told me there was a "wage investigation" happening because I had worked in both PA and Delaware last year. Nobody told me this was happening! Once I knew what was going on I was able to upload my W2s and within a week it was resolved. You HAVE to talk to someone to find out what's happening.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I worked for the same company the whole time so I doubt it's a wage investigation for me, but you're right that I need to actually talk to someone to figure it out. Going to try calling again tomorrow morning when they first open.

@OP - were you able to get through? Any updates on your claim?

I finally got through yesterday! Turns out there was an issue with my identity verification (even though I did the IDme verification when I first applied). The agent was able to clear it right away. She said my payments should start processing within 3-5 business days and I'll get all the back weeks. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.
