7 months waiting for PA UC decision after hearing - need urgent contact info
I'm at my wits end with PA unemployment! Filed back in Oct 2024 and here we are in May 2025 - SEVEN MONTHS later and still nothing. They put me through a whole hearing process about a month ago (had to explain why I was let go from my retail job) and I haven't heard a single word since. My dashboard just says 'pending hearing decision' and nothing happens. I've called the regular UC number literally 80+ times but either get disconnected or it just rings forever. Does anyone know any actual working phone numbers to reach a real human? I've got bills piling up and this whole thing feels like a sick joke at this point. Any advice appreciated because I honestly don't know what else to do.

I went through something similar last year. After your hearing, decisions usually take 4-6 weeks, but with their backlog, it can stretch to 8-10 weeks sometimes. For contact, try calling right when they open at 8am - that worked for me occasionally. Also, you can try reaching out to your state representative's office. They often have direct channels to UC and can make inquiries on your behalf. I was stuck for 5 months until I did this, and suddenly my case started moving.

•Thank you! I didnt know it could take that long after a hearing. I've tried early morning calls but no luck yet. I'll definitely contact my state rep - never thought of that. Did you just look them up online to find their office info?

OMG the same thing happened to me!!!! I had my hearing in February and didn't get my decision until APRIL. The system is completely broken. Try emailing UCHelp@pa.gov with your claim number in the subject line. Sometimes they actually respond to those.

•Thanks, I'll try that email too. It's so frustrating not knowing if I should keep waiting or if something got messed up in their system. Did you do anything special to finally get your decision letter?

•Just checked all my folders including spam - nothing from them since the hearing notice. But good idea, I'll keep checking spam too just in case.

The official timeline for hearing decisions is 3-6 weeks, but right now they're running about 8-12 weeks on average due to staffing shortages. If it's been more than 3 months since your hearing, you should definitely be following up. Here are a few strategies to try: 1. Call the UC Service Center at 888-313-7284, but use the option for "new claims" rather than existing claims - sometimes this gets you through faster 2. Contact your state representative's office as mentioned above 3. Try the UC Board of Review at 717-787-5122 if your hearing was with a Referee 4. Submit an inquiry through your dashboard under "Contact Us" Don't give up - persistence is unfortunately necessary with the PA UC system.

•Thank you for all these specific numbers and tips! I'll try the new claims trick tomorrow morning. It's been just about 4 weeks since my hearing, so maybe I'm being impatient. But with the whole claim taking 7 months already, it's hard not to worry.

The hearing backlog is insane right now! I had to wait 14 weeks after my hearing to get my decision and then another 3 weeks to actually get paid after being approved. The whole system is a joke.

Have you tried using Claimyr? After struggling for weeks to get through to PA UC on my own, I discovered their service. They basically connect you to an unemployment agent without the endless busy signals. Saved me hours of frustration when I was in a similar situation with a pending hearing decision. They have a video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 and you can find them at claimyr.com. After getting connected, I found out my decision was actually made but hadn't been properly processed in the system.

•I've never heard of this service before. Does it actually work? At this point I'm willing to try anything because I literally cannot get through on any of the regular numbers.

•Yes, it worked for me. Instead of spending days trying to get through, I was connected to an actual UC agent within about 30 minutes. The agent was able to see notes on my account that weren't visible to me online and explained exactly what was happening with my claim.

•I tried Claimyr too and it worked but the agent I got still couldn't do much to help me except tell me to keep waiting. But at least I knew what was happening instead of being in the dark.

I'm literally sitting in a similar boat... waiting 5 months now after my hearing! The referee told me it would be 2-3 weeks but here we are. I've actually gotten through to them twice - both times they just said "it's still pending" and that they can't do anything to speed it up. It's complete BS because I have all the proof my employer was in the wrong!!!! The whole system is designed to wear us down until we give up. DON'T GIVE UP!

•That's exactly what I'm afraid of - that I'll finally get through and they'll just tell me to keep waiting. Did they at least confirm that everything was in order with your claim when you spoke to them?

An update on what I mentioned earlier - when you contact your state rep, be sure to sign their privacy release form. They can't inquire about your case without it. When I did this, my rep's office staff told me they submit UC inquiries in batches every Tuesday, and I got a call back from UC within 10 days. They were able to explain exactly what was causing my delay (missing employer response) and then pushed my claim through to the next stage once they verified the information.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I just looked up my state rep and I'm going to call their office tomorrow. Hopefully they can help me figure out what's going on with my claim. I appreciate the specific details about the privacy form - wouldn't have known about that.

One more important thing - if your financial situation is dire while waiting, you may qualify for emergency assistance through your county assistance office. This won't impact your unemployment claim and can help with basic needs while your case is pending. You can apply online through COMPASS.

•Thank you - I didn't know about this option. Things are definitely getting tight financially so I'll look into this too. Appreciate all the help everyone has offered here.
