PA UC PIN number not arriving in mail - anyone else waiting forever?
My husband filed for PA unemployment 3 weeks ago and we're still waiting for his PIN number to come in the mail! This is ridiculous - how is he supposed to file his weekly claims without it? The website says 7-10 business days, but it's been way longer than that. He called the UC service center at least 20 times but just gets busy signals or disconnected. Has anyone else had to wait this long for their PIN? Is there another way to get one without waiting for snail mail? His benefit year started on Feb 12, 2025 and we're worried he's going to lose benefits for these weeks he couldn't file. So frustrated right now!

I had a similar issue back in January. The PIN can definitely take longer than they claim - mine took about 4 weeks to arrive. Your husband should keep trying to call, but also try these options: 1. Request a PIN reset through the PA UC website (under 'Forgot PIN') 2. Send a message through their message center (though responses can be slow) 3. Try calling right when they open at 8am - that's when I finally got through The good news is that he should be able to backdate his weekly claims once he gets his PIN, so he shouldn't lose any eligible weeks. Just make sure he's completing his work search activities each week and documenting them.

•Thank you so much! We'll try the website reset option today. Do you know if they'll send a new PIN or will that just let him create one online? And yes he's been doing the work search activities and keeping track of everything just in case.

•We double-checked the address and it's definitely correct. Our mail has been reliable for everything else. Just seems like the UC office is backed up or something?

OMG the EXACT same thing happened to my sister!!! She waited like 5 WEEKS for her PIN and was freaking out the whole time!!! The PA unemployment system is such a MESS right now!! When she finally got it, she was able to file for all the back weeks though. But seriously, they need to figure out a better system - it's 2025 for crying out loud, why are we still waiting for MAIL?!?!?

•I think they do it on purpose to make people give up. My friend never got his PIN at all and just went back to a job he hates because he couldn't deal with the headache anymore. The whole system is designed to frustrate people out of collecting benefits they deserve!!

•The mail system is actually for security purposes. While it seems outdated, it helps prevent fraud since physical mail goes to a verified address. But I agree they should have backup options when there are delays.

I work with UC claimants regularly, and PIN delays have been a common issue lately. Here's what you need to know: 1. Yes, your husband can file for those missed weeks once he gets his PIN - this is called "backdating" and is allowed when there are system issues preventing timely filing. 2. The online PIN reset typically only works if you've had a PIN before. For new claims, you usually need the original mailed PIN first. 3. The fastest solution is usually reaching a live agent at the UC service center, but as you've discovered, that's extremely difficult right now. 4. Make sure he continues documenting his work search activities (minimum of 2 per week) while waiting. One thing that's helped many of my clients is using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to PA UC. They have a system that essentially waits on hold for you and calls you back when an agent is available. They have a video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Regardless of how you proceed, document everything - dates of calls attempted, confirmation numbers of any online submissions, etc. This will help if there's any dispute about the delay later.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I've never heard of Claimyr before but will definitely check it out. At this point, we'll try anything to get this resolved. I'm relieved to hear he won't lose those weeks of benefits. This whole process has been so confusing and stressful.

•No, we hadn't thought of that! There's a CareerLink about 20 minutes from us. Do you know if we need to make an appointment first or can we just walk in?

•i think you can walk in but might be better to call first. they helped my cousin with some paperwork but told him they cant fix everything cuz theyre not the actual UC office

I tried that Claimyr service mentioned above last week when I couldn't get through about my open issue. It actually worked! Got connected to a rep in about 40 minutes after trying for days on my own. The rep was able to reset my PIN over the phone after verifying my identity. Might be worth a try if you're still stuck.

•Seems kinda sketchy to me that we have to use some third party service just to reach our own government unemployment office! What's next, paying someone to get our tax refunds? The system is broken!!

•I felt the same way at first but was desperate after two weeks of calling. It's ridiculous we need to use workarounds, but it did solve my problem when nothing else worked.

UPDATE: We finally got through to someone! My husband tried the Claimyr service that was suggested here and got connected to a UC rep in about an hour. The rep said there was a backlog of PIN mailings and verified his identity over the phone, then helped him set up a temporary PIN so he could file while waiting for the mail. He was able to file for all the missed weeks too. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

•That's great news! Make sure he changes that temporary PIN to something more secure once he gets fully set up in the system. And remember to keep up with those weekly work search activities!
