How to contact PA state rep for unemployment appeal stuck since 8/15? 13 weeks no response
I'm at my wits end with this unemployment appeal process! Filed an appeal back on August 15th after getting denied benefits due to 'separation determination' (whatever that even means). It's been 13 WEEKS of silence - no hearing date, no updates, nothing! I've tried calling PA UC countless times but just get the busy signal or disconnected. My rent is due next week and I'm panicking. Can anyone tell me how to find out who my state representative is? And more importantly, do state reps actually help with unemployment appeal delays? I've heard they might be able to push things along but don't know if that's actually true or just wishful thinking. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Finding your state rep is pretty easy. Go to https://www.legis.state.pa.us/ and click on 'Find My Legislator' at the top. You'll enter your address and it will show your state rep and their contact info. And YES, contacting your state rep can definitely help with appeals that are stuck in limbo! I had a similar situation back in March - waited 9 weeks for my appeal hearing with zero updates. My state rep's office sent an inquiry to UC on my behalf and suddenly I got a hearing date within a week. They have special contacts at UC who can look into these delays.

•Thank you SO MUCH! Just looked up my rep and will be calling their office first thing tomorrow morning. Did you call or email your rep? And did you have to provide any specific info about your claim?

•This is completely WRONG information! State reps absolutely CAN and DO help with unemployment issues - that's literally part of their job! I worked in a state office for 3 years and constituent services for unemployment was one of our biggest priorities. If your rep wasn't helpful, that's on THEM, not the process. A good rep's office will follow up multiple times and escalate if needed.

If you're waiting on a referee appeal for a separation determination, contacting your state representative is absolutely a good option at this point. Appeals should typically be scheduled within 30-45 days, so 13 weeks is well beyond the normal timeframe. To contact your state rep: Use the website the other poster mentioned, or call your county courthouse - they can tell you which district you're in and provide contact information. When you contact them: - Provide your full name, address, and last 4 of your SSN - Include your claim confirmation number if you have it - Explain clearly when you filed your appeal (8/15/2025) - Mention it's a separation determination issue - Tell them how long you've been waiting (13 weeks) - Explain any financial hardship you're experiencing They should be able to submit an inquiry to a special department at the UC service center that handles legislative requests. These typically get faster responses than regular inquiries.

•This is incredibly detailed and helpful - thank you! I'll definitely include all those details when I contact them. This gives me a little hope that something might actually happen.

I had same problem last yr waiting for appeal hearing!! my neighbor told me about Claimyr.com which gets you through to a UC agent directly instead of waiting on hold forever. They have this system where they call for you and then connect you when an agent answers. I was skeptical but tried it and actually talked to a real person who explained why my appeal was delayed (they were missing some employer info). You can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 Worth trying before going to your state rep maybe?

•Just checked out the video - that actually looks really helpful! I didn't even know services like this existed. Might try this first before contacting my rep since I need answers ASAP. Thanks for sharing this!

Just wanted to mention that "separation determination" means they made a decision about whether your job separation qualifies you for benefits. If they determined you quit without a necessitous and compelling reason OR were fired for willful misconduct, that's probably why they denied you. Your appeal is to contest that determination. And yes, 13 weeks is WAY too long to wait. The pandemic backlog should be cleared by now. Definitely contact your state rep AND try reaching UC directly to ask about the status. The appeal might be sitting in a queue waiting for employer information or something similar.

•Thank you for explaining that! Yes, they said I was fired for willful misconduct, but that's not accurate at all. I was let go after they changed my schedule to hours I couldn't work due to childcare issues (which they knew about when I was hired). So I'm appealing that determination. Hopefully I can get this sorted soon!

Any updates? Were you able to reach your state rep or UC?

•Yes! UPDATE: I used that Claimyr service yesterday and actually got through to someone at UC! They told me my appeal paperwork got flagged for "additional review" because my employer submitted contradicting statements about my separation. They're expediting it now and said I should get my hearing notice within 7-10 days. I also left a message with my state rep's office just as backup. Thanks everyone for the advice - I finally feel like something's happening after months of silence!

For anyone else reading this who's stuck waiting on an appeal - here's exactly what you should do in this order: 1. Try reaching UC directly (using the service mentioned or by calling repeatedly) 2. Contact your state representative's office 3. If neither of those work within a week, contact your STATE SENATOR too (they often have even more pull) 4. If you're truly desperate and it's been over 8 weeks, you can also try contacting the UC Board of Review directly at 717-787-5122 The system is frustrating but there ARE ways to navigate it. Don't give up!

•This is great advice. The UC agent I spoke with yesterday actually mentioned that if I hadn't gotten a response in another 2 weeks to contact the Board of Review directly. Seems like they can sometimes identify appeals that fell through the cracks.

I'm so glad you got through to someone and got answers! This whole thread has been super helpful - I've been lurking here for weeks dealing with my own stuck appeal (filed in September, also separation determination). Just tried the Claimyr service this morning and actually got connected to a UC agent within 20 minutes! Turns out my employer never responded to their request for information, so my case was just sitting there waiting. The agent said they'll send another notice to my employer and if they don't respond within 10 days, they'll move forward with just my side of the story. Sometimes you just need to talk to the right person who can actually look into your specific case!
