How long after PA UC disqualification to get decision or hearing date?
So I just got disqualified from my PA unemployment benefits last week. Something about not providing enough evidence of my layoff (even though I uploaded everything they asked for!). Has anyone been through this before? How long does it usually take to either get the official decision letter or a hearing date? I've been checking my dashboard daily but nothing's changing, and I can't get through on the phone. Getting desperate here since I'm 6 weeks without any income now. 😩

It depends on the reason for disqualification. Generally, you should receive an official determination letter within 10-14 days after the disqualification notice. This letter will explain the exact reason and your appeal rights. Once you appeal (which you must do within 15 days of the determination date!), it typically takes 3-4 weeks to get scheduled for a hearing, though wait times are longer right now in 2025. Make sure you file your appeal through your dashboard AND mail in the paper form as a backup.

•Thanks for the info! The dashboard just says "disqualified" under payment status but I haven't received any letter yet explaining why. Should I wait for the letter before appealing or start the appeal process now?

•3 weeks?! That's insane. Did you keep filing weekly claims during that time?

Here's what you need to do immediately: 1. File an appeal RIGHT NOW even without the letter. You only have 15 days from the determination date (not when you receive it) to appeal. 2. Continue filing your weekly claims even though you're disqualified. If you win your appeal, they'll pay all those weeks. 3. While waiting for your hearing, gather ALL evidence - emails from employer, termination notice, witness statements, etc. 4. Call the service center first thing in the morning (7:59am) to understand exactly why you were disqualified so you can prepare. For reference, my hearing was scheduled about 5 weeks after I filed my appeal in January 2025.

•Ok I'll start the appeal process today. But I've been trying to call for weeks with no luck - always busy signals or disconnects after waiting forever! Is there any trick to actually getting through to someone?

I went through this exact same situation in November! I got disqualified for "insufficient work history documentation" which was complete BS because I had 2 years at the same company. Finally got my hearing scheduled after 6 WEEKS of waiting. The system is completely broken right now.

•6 weeks is crazy long! Did you eventually win your appeal? I'm so stressed about how to pay bills while this drags on.

Yes I won but it took another 3 weeks after the hearing to get paid. Total nightmare. Make sure you have EVERYTHING documented.

I had a similar issue in February. Tried calling for weeks with no luck - busy signals or 4+ hour waits only to get disconnected. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a live agent. It basically calls for you and connects you when an agent answers. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 showing how it works. The agent told me exactly why I was disqualified and what evidence I needed for my appeal. Made a huge difference in preparing for my hearing.

It's legit - got me through to an agent in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. Saved me a ton of stress.

THE PA UNEMPLOYMENT SYSTEM IS DELIBERATELY DESIGNED TO DENY CLAIMS!!!! They WANT you to miss appeal deadlines and give up. I was disqualified last year for supposedly "refusing suitable work" which NEVER HAPPENED. Then my hearing notice went to my old address even though I updated it online. By the time I found out I missed the hearing, they said it was "too late" to reschedule!!!! FIGHT THEM ON EVERYTHING AND DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!!

•That's awful, I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm definitely going to be super careful with all the paperwork and deadlines.

To answer your original question more specifically: Current average timeframes in PA (as of June 2025) are: - Determination letter: 14-21 days after disqualification - Hearing scheduled: 4-7 weeks after appeal submission - Hearing decision: 1-3 weeks after hearing - Payment (if you win): 1-2 weeks after favorable decision So altogether, you're looking at approximately 7-13 weeks from disqualification to payment if you win your appeal. Remember to keep filing weekly claims during this entire process!

•Thank you so much for the detailed breakdown. I filed my appeal today and I'll make sure to keep doing my weekly claims. Looks like I'm in for a long wait but at least I know what to expect now.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Got disqualified 2 weeks ago for "voluntary quit" even though I was clearly laid off due to budget cuts. Still haven't received my determination letter either. Reading all these responses is both helpful and terrifying - sounds like we're in for months of stress. I already filed my appeal online yesterday just to be safe, and I've been keeping up with my weekly claims. The whole system seems designed to exhaust people into giving up. Stay strong and don't let them wear you down! We've got to keep fighting for what we're entitled to.
