Why is my unemployment pending - NYS Department of Labor claim stuck for weeks
Filed my UI claim about 2 weeks ago and it's still showing pending status on my.ny.gov. I've been certifying my weekly claims but haven't received any payments yet. The website doesn't give any explanation for the delay and when I call the NYS Department of Labor I just get a busy signal or get disconnected after waiting on hold for hours. Is this normal? I'm starting to panic because my bills are piling up and I don't know what's wrong with my claim.

Your claim is likely in adjudication, which means NYS Department of Labor is reviewing something about your eligibility. Common reasons include job separation issues, wage verification problems, or identity verification requirements. Check your my.ny.gov inbox for any correspondence that might explain what they need from you. The adjudication process can take 2-6 weeks unfortunately.

•I checked my inbox multiple times and there's nothing there. Should I be worried that there's no correspondence at all?

same thing happened to me last month, took almost 5 weeks before they approved it. turns out they were verifying my previous employer info and never told me

•Did you ever find out why they didn't send you any notice about what was happening?

I had this exact problem and couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks. Finally used a service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual agent in like 10 minutes. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. The agent was able to tell me exactly what was holding up my claim - turned out to be a simple wage verification issue that got resolved the same day once I knew what to submit.

•Never heard of that service before. Is it legit? I've been trying to reach someone for 3 weeks now.

•Yeah it's on claimyr.com - basically they handle the calling and waiting for you so you don't have to sit on hold. Saved me so much frustration.

The NYS Department of Labor system is completely broken. They put everyone in adjudication and then take forever to process anything. I've been waiting 4 weeks and still no answers!

While you're waiting, make sure you keep certifying your weekly claims even though you're not getting paid yet. If your claim gets approved, you'll receive back payments for all the weeks you certified. Also double-check that you're meeting the job search requirements - you need to log 3 work search activities per week in the system.

•Thanks, I have been doing my weekly certifications. Good to know about the back pay - that's a relief at least.
