Which statements about unemployment impact are actually true - need clarification for NYS Department of Labor application
I'm filling out some forms for my NYS Department of Labor claim and there's a section asking about how unemployment has affected me personally. They have multiple choice options but I'm not sure which ones are considered 'correct' answers or if this affects my eligibility somehow. The statements are about financial stress, job search challenges, mental health impacts, etc. Has anyone else encountered these questions? I don't want to answer wrong and mess up my claim status. My adjudication just finished last week and I finally got approved so I'm being extra careful with everything now.

Those questions are typically for statistical purposes and research, not for determining your eligibility. Answer honestly about your personal experience. The NYS Department of Labor uses this data to understand the broader impact of unemployment on claimants. Your benefit amount and eligibility are based on your work history and the reason for your job separation, not your answers to impact surveys.

•Thank you! That makes me feel better. I was worried it was some kind of test to see if I'm really looking for work or something.

i think all of those statements can be true depending on the person? unemployment affects everyone differently. some people handle it better than others

You're overthinking this. I've been through the NYS Department of Labor system multiple times and those survey questions never impact your weekly claim certification or job search requirements. Just answer based on your actual situation. If you're having trouble reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor to clarify, I recently used claimyr.com to get through to an agent quickly. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I was stuck in adjudication limbo.

•How much does that service cost? I've been trying to call NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my overpayment notice.

•It's worth checking out their site for details. The main thing is it actually gets you connected instead of sitting on hold forever or getting disconnected.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU PARANOID ABOUT EVERY LITTLE THING! I spent months worrying about questions like this when really they just want data for their reports. NYS Department of Labor makes everything so confusing on purpose I swear.

•I feel this so much. Every form feels like a trap somehow.

Wait are you talking about the survey that comes up sometimes when you do your weekly claim? I usually just skip those optional parts. They're not required for your certification.

•No this was actually in my initial application paperwork, not the weekly claims. But good to know the weekly ones are optional!
