What does 'not disqualified' mean on my NYS Department of Labor unemployment claim status?
I've been checking my unemployment claim status on my.ny.gov and it shows 'not disqualified' under my determination. I filed about 2 weeks ago and this just appeared yesterday. I'm confused because I don't know if this is good or bad news? Does this mean my claim was approved or is there still more waiting? I haven't received any payments yet and I'm getting really anxious about when I'll start seeing benefits. Can someone explain what 'not disqualified' actually means in plain English?

Not' disqualified is actually good news! It means NYS Department of Labor reviewed your separation from employment and determined you'didn t do anything that would disqualify you from receiving (benefits like getting fired for misconduct or quitting without good)cause . This is one of the key determinations they make during the adjudication process. You should start seeing payments for your weekly claims soon, assuming'you ve been filing them and meet all other eligibility requirements like job searchactivities.

•Thank you so much! I was worried it meant something negative. I have been filing my weekly claims and doing my job searches. How long after getting 'not disqualified' do payments usually start?

Yeah that's definitely a positive status. I got the same thing last month and my first payment came about 3-4 days later. Just make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the payments to start. The system can be slow but 'not disqualified' means you cleared the biggest hurdle.

•Same experience here - once I saw 'not disqualified' the payments started flowing within a week.

I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I had questions about my claim status. If you need to speak with someone directly about your specific situation, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me reach an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I couldn't get through on my own after dozens of attempts.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'll keep that in mind if I run into any issues. Right now I'm just hoping the payments start soon.

wait so not disqualified is different from approved?? I'm so confused by all these statuses... my claim has been pending for 3 weeks and I don't see anything about disqualified or not disqualified anywhere. Should I be worried??

•Not' disqualified specifically refers to your separation determination - meaning they found no reason to deny benefits based on how/why you lost your 'job.' Approved would be the overall claim status. If'you re still pending after 3 weeks, you might want to check if there are any outstanding issues in your account that needattention.

Congrats! That's one less thing to worry about. The whole unemployment system is so stressful.

I went through this exact same situation a few months ago! "Not disqualified" means you've passed the separation determination review - basically NYS DOL confirmed that your job loss wasn't due to misconduct or voluntary quit without good cause. This is actually a major milestone in the process. In my case, I received my first payment about 5-6 days after seeing this status update. Just keep filing your weekly claims and stay patient - the hardest part is behind you now. The waiting is nerve-wracking but you're definitely heading in the right direction!

•This is so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing! The waiting really is nerve-wracking, especially when you're depending on these benefits. Good to know that 5-6 days is typical - I'll try to be patient and keep doing what I'm supposed to do with the weekly claims. Thank you for sharing your experience!
