New York Unemployment: Will refusing job offer due to childcare conflict affect my benefits?
My old job offered me a position but the hours are after my childcare closes. I can't work those hours because I have nobody to watch my kids. Do I need to report that I refused the job offer? Will this mess up my benefits? Really worried about this situation.

Yes you have to report it but you should be fine. Childcare issues are considered a valid reason to refuse work, especially if the hours don't match up with available childcare. Make sure you document everything and explain your situation clearly when you report it.

•When you do your weekly certification, there's a question about refusing work. Select yes and they'll give you space to explain why

Hey I found a way to actually talk to someone at unemployment about this! Used this site claimyr.com - they call and wait on hold then connect you to an agent. Costs $20 but worth it for peace of mind. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% legit, got through to someone in like 45 mins instead of calling for days

Make sure to get the hours they offered you in writing if possible. Always good to have a paper trail showing the conflict with your childcare schedule.

Listen up because this is important. NY Unemployment considers several factors when determining if refusing work is valid: - Childcare responsibilities are a legitimate reason if you can't find reasonable care - The hours must be during normal business hours unless that's standard for your industry - You need to document everything - Keep proof of your childcare's hours - Save all communication with the employer When reporting, be clear and detailed. If you need to speak with someone directly about this, use claimyr.com - they'll get you through to an agent fast. Better to handle this correctly now than deal with issues later. Source: Been through this myself and helped others navigate the system.
