New York Unemployment Threatening to Stop Benefits - Got Job Fair Letter Late
Just got a notice from unemployment about missing a job fair. The letter came 5 days after the actual job fair happened. I filled out their questionnaire explaining that I got the notice late, but now they're threatening to stop my benefits. Not sure if this means I lose just one week or all my benefits. Cannot get through to anyone on the phone.

Same thing happened to me last month! They ended up only stopping one week of benefits. Just make sure you keep documenting everything and take pictures of the envelope/letter showing the postmark date.

Hey I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! Used this service called claimyr.com - they handle the calling and waiting on hold, then connect you when theres a real person. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

The ny unemployment system is such a joke. They expect us to time travel or sumthing when they send notices late 🤡

Listen up everyone dealing with this issue - here's what you need to do: First, document EVERYTHING. Take pics of the envelope showing the postmark date. Write down all dates and times. Second, file an appeal immediately. You have 30 days from the determination date. Third, keep certifying every week even if benefits are paused. Fourth, try reaching them through their website's message system AND by phone. Use claimyr.com if you need to get through quick - its worth the $20 to protect your benefits. Typically they only stop one week unless theres other issues. But you need to be proactive about appealing. Source: went through this mess last year and won my appeal.

your supposed to keep the job search requirements even if they mess up sending notices. but yeah its usually just 1 week penalty
