New York Unemployment: Can I do DoorDash 8 hours/week while claiming full benefits?
Got approved for unemployment and wondering about doing DoorDash part time. The website says we get 100% benefits if working 0-10 hours weekly. Anyone know if gig work counts toward these hours? Don't want to mess up my claim but need extra cash.

You have to report ANY income from DoorDash. Its not just about the hours - they look at the money you make. Even if your under 10 hours, if you make over your allowed amount you'll get a reduced benefit or nothing at all.

•Do you know what the allowed amount is? Like can I make $100 a week without it affecting anything?

•Pretty sure its like $504 before taxes but dont quote me on that. Anything over will reduce ur benefits by 25% of what u make

•Nah its actually lower than that. I think its like $435 now and they count GROSS earnings not what u actually take home 🙄

Hey guys just wanted to share - if anyone needs to actually talk to someone at unemployment about this stuff, I used claimyr.com. It calls for you and gets someone on the phone. Costs $20 but saved me hours of trying to get through. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Used it myself last week! They just do the calling/holding part then connect you when someone picks up. Way better than calling 500 times myself lol

•This actually worked for me too! Worth the $20 considering I was going crazy trying to get through 💯

DONT DO IT! I tried this and got flagged for fraud. They can see ur doing gig work through ur SSN and if u dont report it exactly right ur screwed. Not worth the risk tbh

This is actually a great question that comes up alot. Here's what you need to know about gig work while on UI: - You MUST report all income when you certify - They count the hours you're actively working (not just app online time) - Income is based on GROSS earnings (before expenses/gas) - Keep detailed records of hours/earnings - If you make too much they'll reduce benefits Honestly, if you need clarification, use claimyr.com to get an agent on the phone. Better safe than sorry with this stuff.

i do instacart while claiming and its fine just gotta be honest about what u make each week. better to report more hours than less if ur not sure tbh

•How do you calculate your hours? Like do you count driving time to stores?

They should seriously update their system for gig workers... its so confusing trying to figure out what counts as work hours vs just having the app on 🤦♂️
