NYSDOL Unemployment: How to handle call for missing claim info?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my claim. They told me I need to provide more info, but they didn't say what exactly is missing. I'm supposed to talk to a live agent to sort this out, but I have no clue what to ask for or what they need from me. Anyone been through this before? Any advice on how to handle this call when I finally get through?

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Wait, what? You have to pay to talk to someone about your benefits? That seems kinda sketchy...

Idk man, $20 to avoid hours on hold? Might be worth it. Can you tell us more about how it worked for you?

I get the skepticism, but it's legit. Saved me hours of frustration. You just put in your number, they call when they get an agent. No more mind-numbing hold music!

Listen up, cause I've been down this road before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Before the call, gather ALL your documents. W-2s, pay stubs, anything related to your work history. 2. When you get an agent, start by saying: "I need to know exactly what information is missing from my claim. Can you please check my file and give me a specific list?" 3. Take notes during the call. Write down the agent's name and ID number if they have one. 4. If they say something's missing, ask for the exact form name or document type they need. 5. Before ending the call, repeat back what they told you to make sure you understood correctly. 6. Ask if there's a direct number or extension you can use for follow-up questions. 7. If you're not satisfied with the answers, politely ask to speak with a supervisor. Remember, stay calm but be persistent. You have a right to this information. Good luck!

Can confirm this works. Used a similar approach and finally got my issue resolved after weeks of runaround.

Have you tried checking your online account? Sometimes they post notices there about missing info. Might save you a phone call.

Pro tip: if you cant get thru on the main line, try calling right when they open or just before they close. Sometimes you can catch em with shorter wait times.

If you're considering Claimyr, here's what you should know: it's a service designed to help people reach human agents more efficiently, especially when government lines are overwhelmed. Although it carries a fee ($20), its proponents argue it's a small price for potentially saving hours of frustration and getting your issue resolved faster. However, it's essential to weigh the cost against your needs. Not everyone is comfortable paying for something they believe should already be accessible as a public service. Before using Claimyr, see if you can resolve your issue through free methods, like calling during off-peak times or utilizing any online resources and notices. For those facing financial hardship, this fee might not be feasible, so it's crucial to consider your personal circumstances.

Been there, done that. It's like they expect us to be mind readers or something. π When you get through, just ask them point blank what specific info they need. Don't let them give you any vague answers. Make them spell it out for you.

Lol for real. Sometimes I think it'd be easier to navigate a labyrinth blindfolded than deal with this system.

Kafka? More like a Catch-22. You need info to complete your claim, but you need to complete your claim to get the info. π€‘

Honestly, at this point, I'm convinced their hold music is a form of psychological warfare. π΅π΅βπ«

Plot twist: if you can survive the hold music for 10 hours straight, they automatically approve your claim π€£

Great, just what we need. More confusion. π Why can't they just leave things alone for five minutes?

Pretty sure they're closed on weekends, my dude. It's a government agency, they love their M-F 9-5 life.

They used to be open some Saturdays during peak covid times, but I think that stopped. Check their website to be sure tho

Ugh, the system is so broken. I swear they make it confusing on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits. Hang in there, OP!

It really feels that way sometimes. I've heard from others that if you don't push for clarity, they just keep you circling.

Here's a pro tip: Write down EVERYTHING they tell you during the call. Names, dates, specific info requested. It'll save you headaches later, trust me.

Has anyone tried reaching out to their local representative's office for help? I've heard some people have had success with that when they're stuck.

Hey OP, just a heads up - if they ask for additional docs, make sure to send copies, not originals. Learned that one the hard way... π

Exactly! And if the first person you talk to isn't helpful, don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor. Sometimes you gotta go up the chain to get real answers.
