NYS Department of Labor unemployment target rates - what does this mean for my claim?
I keep hearing about federal unemployment targets and economic indicators on the news, but I'm confused about how this affects my actual unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor. Does anyone know if these target rates impact how they process claims or determine eligibility? My claim has been pending for 2 weeks and I'm wondering if there's some connection to these economic policies. Are they stricter or more lenient when unemployment is at certain levels?

The federal unemployment target (usually around 4-5%) is more about monetary policy and doesn't directly affect your individual NYS Department of Labor claim processing. Your claim approval depends on whether you meet the basic eligibility requirements - lost job through no fault of your own, able and available to work, actively seeking work. The 2-week delay you're experiencing is probably just normal adjudication time, not related to any federal targets.

•That makes sense, thank you! I was overthinking it. Should I be worried about the 2 week delay though? My claim status just says 'under review' with no other details.

i had the same worry when i filed last year. the federal stuff is just economic theory, your claim gets processed based on your work history and reason for separation. if you're still worried about the delay though, you could try calling the NYS Department of Labor but good luck getting through

•Actually, I had trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor agents too until someone here mentioned Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to unemployment agents - check out claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI. Worked great for me when I needed to check on my adjudication status.

•The unemployment system is already so confusing without worrying about federal economic targets too! I'm just focused on getting my weekly claims filed correctly and making sure I'm doing my job search requirements right.

Look, the whole system is designed to discourage people from claiming benefits regardless of what the fed wants. These 'targets' are just politicians playing with numbers while real people struggle to get their rightful benefits. Your 2 week delay is probably just them hoping you'll give up and stop filing.

•I understand the frustration but that's not really accurate. NYS Department of Labor processes claims based on state regulations, not federal unemployment targets. The delays are usually due to verification requirements or high claim volumes, not deliberate discouragement tactics.
