NYS Department of Labor claim delayed - explain the degree to which unemployment benefits affect my situation
I've been trying to understand the degree to which my unemployment claim status is affecting my finances and I'm getting really confused by all the NYS Department of Labor requirements. Filed my initial claim 6 weeks ago after being laid off from my warehouse job and I'm still stuck in adjudication. My claim shows 'pending employer response' but when I call the employer they say they already responded weeks ago. The degree to which this is impacting my ability to pay rent is becoming critical. Has anyone dealt with this type of delay where the employer says they responded but NYS Department of Labor shows otherwise? I've been filing my weekly claims but obviously getting $0. Really need to understand what's happening here.

This is a common issue where there's a disconnect between what employers report and what shows up in the NYS Department of Labor system. The employer response may have been submitted but not properly processed or linked to your claim. You need to contact NYS Department of Labor directly to verify the status and potentially request they follow up with the employer again. Keep filing your weekly claims during adjudication - you'll get back pay once it's resolved.

•Thanks! Do you know how long they usually take to follow up with employers? I'm worried this could drag on for months.

same thing happened to me earlier this year, employer swore they sent everything but my claim was stuck for 2 months. turned out there was some technical glitch and their response never made it into the system properly. i had to get my former HR department to resubmit everything

•Two months?! I can't wait that long. Did you eventually get all your back pay though?

The NYS Department of Labor phone system is absolutely impossible to get through to. I've been trying for weeks to get someone to explain why my claim is taking so long. After dozens of attempts, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually gets you connected to NYS Department of Labor agents. They have a video demo showing how it works at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI. It's specifically designed for situations like yours where you need to check on adjudication status or get clarification on employer responses. Saved me weeks of frustration trying to call on my own.

•How does that work exactly? Do they just call for you or is there more to it?

•They basically handle the calling process and connect you directly to an agent when one becomes available. Way better than sitting on hold for hours or getting disconnected.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS BROKEN! They make it impossible to reach anyone and then wonder why people get frustrated. Six weeks for a simple employer verification is RIDICULOUS. I've been fighting NYS Department of Labor for months over my claim and the degree to which they make everything complicated is just insane.

•I feel you on the frustration but getting angry doesn't really help solve the immediate problem

Check your online account to see if there are any documents you need to upload. Sometimes the system shows pending employer response when it's actually waiting for additional verification from you. Also make sure your contact information is current in case they're trying to reach you.

•Good point, I'll double check everything in my account. The messages section has been empty though.
