NYDOL claim stuck due to wrong answer about corporate officer status - need advice for phone call

I messed up on my unemployment claim and now I'm stuck. I answered a question wrong and got this form about being a corporate officer, which I'm not. I tried to fix it online but the system kept giving me the same form. I left it blank cause it doesn't apply to me, but now they're saying I need to call to complete my claim. Anyone else deal with this? Any advice on what to say when I finally get through to someone?

Jean Claude

Ugh, the NYDOL system is such a nightmare. I had a similar issue last year. When you get through, be super clear about the mistake. Tell them you got the wrong form and need to correct your answer. Have all your docs ready too. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Did you have to wait on hold forever to get through?

Oh man, you have no idea. I was on hold for like 3 hours. It was brutal. Bring a book or something to keep you sane lol

3 hours? You got lucky! I've been trying for days and can't even get put on hold 😭

Here's what you need to say: "Hello, I recently completed my claim filing but received a form regarding corporate officer status, which doesn't apply to me. I believe I answered one question incorrectly and need assistance correcting this error to complete my claim. Could you guide me on how to proceed?" Just be polite and patient. The person on the other end is probably dealing with a ton of calls like this.

Good advice. Always helps to have a script ready. These calls can be nerve-wracking!

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It worked for me! I only waited about 30 minutes after they connected me. Way better than spending all day trying to get through.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. The system is so broken if we have to pay just to talk to someone 🙄

I get it, but for me it was worth it. I was losing my mind trying to get through on my own. Sometimes you gotta spend money to save time 🤷‍♂️

pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. I got through in like 20 minutes last week doing that

OMG the NYDOL website is such garbage. How hard is it to make a system that actually works? 🤬 I swear they make it confusing on purpose

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're stuck in 1995 or something

Conspiracy theory: they make it hard so people give up and don't claim benefits 👀

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you keep calling even if you can't get through right away. I made the mistake of waiting too long and it messed up my claim. Don't let that happen to you!

Oh no, that sounds awful. How long did you wait? What happened to your claim?

I waited like 2 weeks cause I got frustrated. Ended up losing a week of benefits. Don't be like me lol
