NY unemployment payment pending after filing - no updates and can't reach anyone
Filed my NY unemployment claim this Sunday and still nothing's showing up. Usually the payment shows as 'pending' within a day, but there's literally no update on my payment history page. I've been calling the NYSDOL number constantly for 2 days but can't get through to anyone - just the automated system and then disconnects. Anyone else experiencing delays this week? Any tips on actually reaching a human at unemployment?

This happens sometimes, especially at the end of quarters when the system gets overloaded. Have you checked your message inbox on the portal? Sometimes they'll send a notice if there's an issue with your certification. Also make sure you answered all the certification questions correctly - one wrong answer can hold up payment.

•Thanks, I checked my inbox and there's nothing there. And I'm sure I answered everything right - I've been certifying the same way for months with no issues. It's just weird that there's NO pending payment showing up at all.

•At least I'm not alone. Have you tried calling? I've attempted like 20+ times and can't get through.

The NYSDOL system is literally THE WORST!!! I had this exact problem in January and it took me THREE WEEKS to get my money. They never explained why, just suddenly started paying again. Meanwhile bills are due and they don't care AT ALL. The whole system is designed to make people give up!!

•Three weeks?? I can't wait that long... did you ever manage to talk to an actual person about it?

•NOPE! Called literally 50+ times over those weeks. Either busy signal or got disconnected after waiting on hold. The few times I got through to the automated system it just told me my claim was "in process" whatever that means. Then one day money just showed up with no explanation.

There's actually a system maintenance notice on the NY DOL website right now. They're doing backend updates that are causing some payment processing delays. According to the notice, payments should resume by Friday. If you don't see anything by Monday, that's when you should start getting worried. They sometimes batch process claims if there's a backlog.

•Thanks for this info! I didn't see any maintenance notice when I logged in. Where exactly did you find this? I've been checking the home dashboard but maybe I missed it.

•It's not super obvious - it's under the 'News and Updates' section on the DOL homepage, not in the unemployment portal itself. Scroll down past the job fair announcements and you'll see it.

•Hmm, that's an interesting suggestion. I've only been using Safari on my phone. I'll try logging in from my laptop browser tonight and see if that makes any difference.

I had this exact issue last month when nothing showed up after certifying. Spent 3 days trying to get through on the phone with no luck. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get past the phone tree - they got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. Cost money but worth it to me since I needed to know what was going on with my payment. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Turned out there was a flag on my account because my employer had submitted some incorrect info. The agent fixed it right there and my payment showed up the next day.

•Never heard of this service before. Did they actually get you through to a real unemployment agent? That seems worth it if I can get this resolved quickly.

•Yes, got me through to an actual NYSDOL claims specialist. The service basically holds your place in line and calls you when they get an agent. Much better than redialing for hours. The agent saw immediately what was wrong with my claim and fixed it while I was on the phone.

•is this legit?? seems sketchy that you have to pay just to talk to unemployment which should be free

My cousin works for the state (not unemployment but different agency) and she says they're having major computer system upgrades this month. Lots of state services having random delays. Might be related to your payment issue.

•That would explain a lot. Did she mention how long these upgrades are supposed to last?

One other thing to check - make sure you didn't exhaust your benefit year or hit your maximum benefit amount. If you've been collecting for close to a year, your benefit year might have ended and you'd need to file a new claim rather than just certifying. The system doesn't always give a clear message about this.

•I just started collecting three months ago, so definitely haven't hit my benefit year limit. And I still have about $7,800 in benefits remaining according to my account summary. Good suggestion though!

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at NYSDOL! I used that Claimyr service that someone mentioned here and got connected to an agent in about 30 minutes. Turns out there was an "identity verification hold" on my account that happened randomly - the agent said they do periodic checks and mine got flagged. She released the hold while I was on the phone and said my payment should process tonight. Just wanted to update in case anyone else runs into this issue!

•thanks for updating!! i might try that service too if mine doesn't show up tomorrow

•Good to hear you got it resolved! Those random identity verification holds have become more common since all the fraud issues they had in 2023-2024. At least the agent was able to fix it immediately.
