How to get unemployment verification letter from NYS Department of Labor quickly?
I need to get an unemployment verification letter from NYS Department of Labor for my apartment application and I'm not sure how to request it. My landlord is asking for proof of my unemployment benefits and I can't find where to download this on my.ny.gov. Has anyone gotten one of these recently? How long does it take and do I need to call or can I get it online?

You can get your unemployment verification letter through your my.ny.gov account. Log in and go to the 'Letters' section under your unemployment services. It should show benefit verification letters available for download as PDFs. If you don't see it there, you might need to request it through the messaging system.

•Thanks! I found the Letters section but it's showing empty. Should I send a message through the portal or call?

If you need it urgently, you can call NYS Department of Labor and request they mail or email you the verification letter. The automated system sometimes lets you request documents too. Make sure you have your claim number ready when you call. They can usually generate these within 2-3 business days.

•Good luck getting through on the phone though... I've been trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks about a different issue. The hold times are insane and half the time I get disconnected.

•Try using Claimyr to get through faster. I found out about it from someone here - it's claimyr.com and they help you actually reach a real person at NYS Department of Labor. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling.

What exactly do you need the verification letter to show? Sometimes landlords will accept your weekly payment history or benefit determination letter instead if you already have those downloaded.

•They specifically want something that shows my current benefit amount and how long I'm eligible to receive benefits. The determination letter from when I first applied might work though.

This whole system is such a mess. Why can't they just have a simple 'download verification letter' button that actually works? Everything with NYS Department of Labor is needlessly complicated and their website is terrible.

•I totally agree! It's frustrating how basic functions like downloading a verification letter can be so difficult. For something as important as housing applications, they should make this process more user-friendly. The fact that people have to wait weeks or spend hours on hold just to get a simple document is ridiculous.

Another option is to check if your local One-Stop Career Center can help you get the verification letter. They often have direct connections to the Department of Labor and can sometimes expedite these requests. I got mine printed out same day when I went in person to the center in my area. You can find your local center on the DOL website.

•That's a great suggestion! I didn't know the One-Stop Career Centers could help with verification letters. Do you know if they can email or fax the letter directly to landlords, or do they only provide printed copies? My landlord prefers electronic documents if possible.
