How do you get your unemployment money from NYS Department of Labor after approval?
My claim just got approved after being in adjudication for 2 weeks and I'm confused about how I actually receive the money. Do they mail a check or is it direct deposit? I set up direct deposit when I first applied but I'm not sure if it went through correctly. Also when should I expect to see the payment? I certified for my first week yesterday.

Congrats on getting approved! NYS Department of Labor typically pays via direct deposit if you set it up during your initial application. You should see the payment within 2-3 business days after certifying your weekly claim. If direct deposit didn't work they'll mail a debit card to your address on file.

•Thanks! I'm just worried because I moved recently and I'm not sure if my address is updated everywhere it needs to be.

yeah they send a keybank debit card if direct deposit fails, takes like a week to get in the mail though

You can check your payment status by logging into my.ny.gov and looking at your payment history section. It will show pending, processed, or issued status for each weekly claim you've certified. Make sure your bank info is correct in your profile settings too.

•This is super helpful info! I had no idea there was a payment history section. I've been checking my bank account obsessively.

I had issues getting through to NYS Department of Labor when my payments were delayed. Ended up using claimyr.com to actually reach an agent - they have this video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting hung up on.

•Never heard of that service but might be useful if I run into problems. Thanks for sharing!

The whole payment system is a mess honestly. I've been waiting 3 weeks for my back pay and every time I call they give me a different excuse. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at NYS Department of Labor.

•That's frustrating! Have you tried appealing if there's an issue with your claim? Sometimes payments get held up if there's an unresolved adjudication matter.
