How can we fix unemployment issues with NYS Department of Labor claim processing delays?

I've been dealing with my unemployment claim for over two months now and it's still stuck in adjudication. Every week I file my weekly claim but nothing changes. The whole system seems broken - I can't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor, the website crashes constantly, and there's no clear timeline for when things will be resolved. I'm not the only one dealing with this mess. How can we actually fix these unemployment processing issues? There has to be a better way to handle claims without people waiting months for benefits they're entitled to.

The adjudication delays are unfortunately common right now. NYS Department of Labor is dealing with a backlog of cases that require manual review. While we can't fix the entire system overnight, there are some steps that might help expedite your specific case. Make sure you've submitted all required documentation through the my.ny.gov portal, and check that your job search activities are properly logged if you're subject to work search requirements. The system improvements need to come from the state level, but individual claims can sometimes be pushed through with the right approach.

I've submitted everything they asked for twice already. It's like my documents just disappear into a black hole. How are we supposed to survive while waiting for them to get their act together?

Here's what worked for me after waiting 6 weeks in adjudication - I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to a real NYS Department of Labor agent. They have this video demo (https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI) that shows how it works. The agent was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and moved it to the next stage that same day. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual person instead of waiting for the automated system to work.

How much does something like that cost? I'm already struggling financially and can't afford to pay extra just to access my own benefits.

It was worth it for me considering I was losing way more money waiting around. Plus they actually got results unlike the regular phone numbers that just hang up on you.

THE WHOLE UNEMPLOYMENT SYSTEM IS A JOKE!!! I've been waiting 3 MONTHS for my appeal hearing and nobody can tell me when it will be scheduled. They act like we're asking for charity instead of benefits we paid into through our taxes. NYS Department of Labor needs a complete overhaul - fire everyone and start over with people who actually want to help instead of making everything impossible.

I feel your frustration but getting angry won't speed up the process. Have you tried reaching out to your state representative's office? Sometimes they can help push things along.

Yes, you should continue filing your weekly claims even during adjudication. This preserves your claim weeks so you can get back-paid once the issue is resolved. Missing weekly claims can cause additional delays.

Same boat here, been waiting since December for my standby status to be approved. The system definitely needs major reforms but in the meantime we're all just stuck dealing with it. At least knowing other people are going through the same thing makes me feel less alone in this mess.
