Got a call back from NY unemployment by DMing them on Twitter after 6 months of silence
Been trying to reach someone about my unemployment claim since February. Called hundreds of times, sent emails, even tried the contact form on their website. Nothing but automated responses and disconnected calls. Last week, I saw someone mention messaging NY unemployment directly on Twitter. Figured I had nothing to lose at this point, so I sent them a DM explaining my situation. To my shock, I got a callback just 9 days later! The agent couldn't immediately resolve my issue (something about needing additional verification), but she confirmed my case was actually in the system and being processed. She even escalated it to a supervisor with additional notes. That's more progress than I've made in half a year of trying. Not an instant fix but at least someone finally acknowledged my existence. If you've been hitting a wall, definitely try their Twitter - might be worth a shot.

Same thing happened to me last month! The phone lines are absolutely useless but their social media team actually responds. Took them 6 days to call me back and they fixed my issue right away. I think theyre worried about bad PR on social media so they actually help people there lol

After spending WEEKS trying to get thru their phone lines, I tried something called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it actually worked! Got a real human on the phone who fixed my claim in like 20 minutes. Talking to an agent got my money flowing the next week. Worth every penny considering I was about to miss another rent payment. They also have this helpful video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

this sounds sketchy af. another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch, it just calls for you and holds your place in line so you don't waste hours with your phone glued to your ear. When an agent picks up, it forwards the call to your phone. I was desperate after 3 months of getting nowhere

Hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this one different? Did they actually help solve your problem?

For me it wasn't about solving the problem - it was just getting THROUGH to someone who could help. Once I had an actual person on the line, they fixed my issue. The system works, you just cant get through to it

You got lucky. I tried Twitter 3 times and nothing. Emails. Phone calls. Facebook. Even tried writing an actual letter. The system is completeley broken. This is what happens when you cut funding to government services for decades. They just dont have enough people to handle all the claims.

Pro tip: if ur tweeting at them make ur account public and include some hashtags like #NYUnemployment #UnemploymentFraud #FixNYDOL - they hate the negative publicity and are more likely to respond. Worked for me after 2 months of getting nowhere on the phone lines.

This is actually smart! Makes it visible to everyone instead of just a private complaint 👀

Good idea! I didn't think about using hashtags. My account was already public but adding those tags probably would've got their attention faster.

Seriously tho, WHY IS THEIR PHONE SYSTEM SO BAD?? It's 2023! How are they still using technology from 1995? I spent 4 hours on hold yesterday only to get disconnected at the end. FOUR. HOURS. I've had better customer service from my cable company and that's saying something 🤬

Facts. Remember when the system crashed at the beginning of covid? They're still using COBOL programming from like 40 years ago

DETAILED INFO FOR ANYONE STRUGGLING WITH NY UNEMPLOYMENT SYSTEM: After dealing with this system for over a year both personally and helping family members, here's what actually works: 1) Twitter DMs can work but be SPECIFIC about your issue - include claim #, filing date, and exactly what's wrong. Generic "help me" messages get ignored. 2) If you need to speak to someone urgently, use claimyr.com - it's a service that navigates the phone system and gets you a callback when an agent is available. Complete game changer. 3) Document EVERYTHING. Dates you called, who you spoke with, what was promised. This helps when you finally get someone on the line. 4) If possible, try calling exactly at 8:00am Monday morning when the queue is shortest. 5) Ask for a supervisor immediately if your issue is complex. Regular agents often can't override system issues. 6) If you're dealing with identity verification issues, be ready with ALL your documents ready to upload immediately. Don't give up - the system is designed to be frustrating, but persistence pays off eventually.

THIS!!! Saving this comment for future reference. The part about documenting everything saved me when they tried to claim I never called before.

Can vouch for claimyr. After 3 months of nothing, had my issue resolved in one call.

The 8am Monday thing is legit. I got through in "only" 45 minutes doing this.

my cousin works for ny unemployment (not in claims but another dept) and he said theyre still dealing with millions of fraud cases from 2020-2021 so the whole system is backed up. if ur case got flagged for any reason its gonna take forever unless u can actually reach someone.

Yep this is what an agent told me too when I finally got thru. Said they're still cleaning up the mess from all the identity theft during covid

nah bro its legit. they literally had to hire hundreds of temp workers just to sort through the backlog. unemployment fraud was like $100 billion nationwide

If Twitter doesn't work for you, I had success with emailing my state representative. They have staff who deal with constituent services and can sometimes cut through the red tape. Took about 2 weeks but they got someone from unemployment to call me.

This is actually great advice. Government offices prioritize requests from elected officials. My assemblyman's office helped me too!

im sorry but twitter shouldnt be the only way to get help from a government service we all pay for with our taxes. this is ridiculous and shows how broken the entire system is.
