Filed ny unemployment claim in October showing pending for weeks with $0 - are others stuck like this?
I started a new unemployment claim in mid-October. Every week when I certify on Sunday, my payment status just stays "pending" and shows $0.00 under the benefit amount. This has been going on for like 6 weeks now. I've tried calling so many times but always get disconnected because of "high call volume" - so frustrating! Finally managed to contact someone through the governor's office after being transferred around a bunch. The guy I finally spoke with was incredibly rude and just flat out told me I wasn't eligible for benefits. When I asked why the system still lets me certify weekly and keeps showing my claim as "pending" instead of denied, he had no explanation and basically rushed me off the phone. Has anyone else been stuck in this weird limbo where you can still certify but your claim never moves from pending?

Same thing happened to me! I filed back in August and it was pending forever. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me through to an actual human being on the phone. The agent told me my identity verification had gotten flagged somehow but they fixed it right there. My payments started coming thru a week later. Would never have figured it out without talking to a real person! It was the best money I ever spent to get my benefits flowing again. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Is this for real? I've been stuck in pending for like 3 months now 😩

100% real, I was desperate after trying to call for weeks. Gets you past the hold times completely. They just connect you with an actual rep when they answer.

sounds like some sketchy bs to me. another 'miracle solution' that probably does nothing 🙄

nah man, I was skeptical too. But I was at my wits end with rent coming due. Ended up getting over $3400 in backpay once my claim was fixed.

wait hold up - does this actually work? I've tried every phone trick in the book and still can't get through

Worked for me! I got a callback within like an hour. The agent actually knew what was wrong with my claim right away.

Yep, welcome to the NY unemployment system 🤡 Ive been there. The trick is finding someone who actually knows what their doing. Half the ppl answering phones are new hires with minimal training who just read scripts. You need a tier 2 specialist to look at your claim.

How do you get to a tier 2 specialist? The guy I talked to seemed clueless

You literally have to ask for a supervisor or tier 2 rep. Be polite but FIRM. Don't hang up until they transfer you. Some will try to blow you off.

This is facts. I had to straight up say "I need someone who can actually see why my claim is pending" before they transferred me. The first line reps cant do much.

There are a few common reasons this happens: 1. Missing wage information: The system might not have your complete work history 2. Identity verification issues: They might need additional documentation 3. Eligibility questions: Something in your application raised a flag 4. System glitch: Sometimes the system shows pending when you've actually been denied You need to speak with someone who can actually look at your claim in detail. Regular phone reps often can't see the specific issues. I recommend trying these options: - Call right when they open (7:30am) for better chances - Email your state representative (they can escalate) - Try the callback service at claimyr.com (this is what finally worked for me) - Check your online account for any messages or documents needed Don't give up! The system is designed to be confusing and difficult. My claim was "pending" for nearly 8 weeks before I got it resolved and received all my backpay. The key is connecting with the right person who can actually help.

This is super helpful, thank you! I've been trying to call at random times but I'll try right at opening tomorrow.

I tried my state rep and they were useless tbh. Just sent a generic email saying they'd "look into it" and then nothing for weeks.

Yeah, depends on the rep. Some are great, others not so much. The Claimyr route worked best for me personally. Got through in an hour versus weeks of trying.

The whole system is designed to be confusing and make you give up. They WANT people to not get benefits. Keep pushing and documenting everything. I had almost the same thing happen and eventually got all my backpay.

Check your spam folder and mail! I was pending forever and turns out they mailed me a letter asking for identity verification that I never saw. Once I sent that in it took another 3 weeks but eventually got approved.

Good idea, I'll double check my mail. Although I never received anything saying I needed to send anything in.

they sometimes upload documents to your online account without telling you they did it. check the document section too

"Pending" with $0 usually means there's an issue they need to resolve manually. Could be identity verification, wage investigation, or an eligibility interview needed. The fact you can still certify is normal - they let you keep certifying while they figure it out so you don't miss weeks.

Theyre so USELESS!! i was in the same boat and wasted MONTHS trying to figure out why. Turns out my former employer contested my claim saying I quit (I was laid off). The stupid part was no one bothered to tell me this was happening!

Omg that might be what's happening to me! My employer was not happy when I left. How did you find this out?

Finally got through to someone who actually looked at my file notes. Had to demand to speak to a supervisor. Then had to submit proof I was laid off. What a nightmare.

Exact same thing happened to me last yr. turned out I had a flag on my account because I accidentally put the wrong last day of work (was off by 2 days). Such a stupid reason for them to hold ALL my payments. Try getting thru to someone who can really check ur account notes.

I called every single day for 3 weeks straight. Finally used claimyr.com after seeing it recommended here. Got connected to an agent in 45 min who fixed my issue on the spot. My pending weeks changed to paid by the next day. Worth every penny.

Not a hack lol. They just call and wait on hold for you, then connect you when a person answers. Nothing sketchy about it. Just saves you from the hold music hell.

the ny unemployment website is GARBAGE. i think half the time the system just breaks and leaves people in limbo. keep calling, eventually you'll get someone who can help. took me 9 weeks of calling to get mine fixed 😡

They need to fix their stupid system. The fact that it lets you claim every week but doesn't tell you there's a problem is just cruel. So many people think they're getting benefits soon when they're actually stuck in bureaucratic hell.

THIS!!! Why let people keep certifying if there's a problem with the claim? Just to give false hope? Makes no sense.

Call exactly at 7:30 am when they open. That's how I finally got through. And be ready to explain your situation fast before they try to rush you off the phone.

anybody else notice that the customer service has gotten WAY worse lately? during pandemic they had so many more agents. now it's like they fired everyone and the ones left don't know anything

Pro tip: if your claim is stuck in pending for more than 3 weeks, it's NOT going to resolve itself. The system is broken. You NEED to talk to someone. I wasted 2 months thinking it would eventually process automatically.

I went through this exact nightmare in July. Pending for 10 weeks with $0 showing. Finally called my state assembly member who had a contact at unemployment. Got fixed in 3 days after that. Try reaching out to your local elected officials!

Which assembly member did you contact? I'm in Brooklyn and wondering who to reach out to

I'm upstate, but honestly any state assembly member or state senator from your district can help. They all have staff dedicated to helping with state agencies.
