Direct deposit system down for 3 weeks - NY unemployment keeps sending money to closed account
The NY unemployment direct deposit system has been broken for like 3 weeks now. My partner and I both had our Chime accounts closed and they mailed us the remaining balance as checks. Problem is unemployment keeps trying to send payments to those closed accounts! When I try to update my bank info online, I keep getting error messages saying my "information is mismatched." I called DOL and they just said to claim my weeks and when the payments get rejected they'll send it on a KeyBank card. That was like 12 days ago and NOTHING has happened! No card, no deposit, nothing. I've set up a new account with Bank of America but can't update it in the system. Called tech support and the guy literally told me that "about 15 billion people" have been complaining about the same issue today. I'm completely out of options and bills are piling up. Has anyone figured out how to fix this?

•I had this problem too. Ended up using this service called claimyr.com that got me through to an actual person. They fixed it for me on the spot!

After 2 weeks of dealing with the same issue, I finally got someone on the phone using this service called claimyr.com - they kept calling DOL for me and then connected me once they got through. The agent was able to manually update my bank info in their system and override the error. Best money I ever spent after losing so much time trying to call myself. Check out this video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•is this for real? sounds kinda sketchy tbh

•100% worked for me. They don't ask for any personal info - they just call DOL on your behalf and when they get a human, they connect the call to your phone. Then YOU talk directly to DOL.

•yeah I've seen ppl talk about this on other threads too. might try it cuz I'm desperate at this point

•wait so you just pay them to wait on hold for you? that's actually brilliant

•exactly! they just do the hold time for you. I was skeptical too but talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast after weeks of nothing

This is actually a known issue they're having statewide. My cousin works at a call center for NYSDOL and says their whole direct deposit system had a major update that went wrong. They're telling everyone it'll be fixed "soon" but internally they're saying it could be another month 🤦♀️

•another MONTH?? we're supposed to just not pay rent or eat for a month? this is insane

•I know, it's ridiculous. They should be sending paper checks automatically but they're not set up for that volume anymore.

I actually got this fixed yesterday! Here's what worked for me: First, I stopped trying to update my bank info online since the system is clearly broken. Instead, I needed to speak directly with a claims specialist who could manually override the system. I tried calling for days with no luck - constant busy signals or 3+ hour holds. Finally used a service called claimyr.com that kept calling for me and connected me when they got through. The claims specialist confirmed this is a widespread issue affecting thousands of people in NY right now. They had to: 1) First verify my identity with several questions 2) Put a stop payment on funds going to my old account 3) Manually enter my new bank info into their system 4) Override the system error with a supervisor code She told me it would take 3-5 business days for the payments to start going to my new account, and any pending payments would be reissued. Claimyr was the only way I could talk to a live agent after a week of trying. Definitely recommend if you're desperate like I was. Good luck everyone dealing with this mess!

Same thing happening to me but with Netspend too! I switched to Capital One but can't update it in the system. The DOL website is garbage 🗑️

After dealing with this for weeks I ended up filing a complaint with the state ombudsman office AND my state representative. Got a call back from DOL the next day and they fixed it manually. Try that route too!

•here ya go: https://dol.ny.gov/contact-department-labor - scroll down to the ombudsman section. Also contact your local state assembly person, they have special liaisons to DOL

Has anyone tried contacting KeyBank directly? I heard from someone that if they send you the card, you can call KeyBank to have them transfer the money to your actual bank instead of using the card

•I tried that. KeyBank said they can't do anything unless the card is actually issued and activated, and mine hasnt even been sent yet 😑

the real problem is they keep making these "upgrades" to the system that nobody asked for. who approved this garbage update? fire them all 🔥

I swaer its like they want us to just give up on our benefits. been dealing with this for 3 weeks now. its almost like they're hoping we just stop claiming so they can keep the $$$

The error isnt just you, this is a statewide issue. My brother works in IT (not for DOL but similar govt system) and says its a database mismatch problem thats affecting lots of ppl. They know about it but fixing it is taking forever cause govt 🐌

Just a heads up - I was facing the exact same problem with Wells Fargo and finally got it resolved. Used claimyr.com to get someone on the phone after trying for days. The guy at DOL said they're getting THOUSANDS of these calls right now. He had to manually update my account info and said the website update won't be fixed until end of month at earliest.

Why am I not surprised? NY unemployment system has been a joke for years. Remember when their whole site crashed during covid and nobody could apply for weeks? Same energy 🤡

Try contacting your state representatives office! I was having the same issue and my congressmans office has a staff member who deals with unemployment cases. They fixed mine in 2 days with one phone call.
