Did anyone get a $0 test deposit from NY unemployment before real funds arrived?
Just noticed something weird in my bank account today. I got a deposit from NY unemployment for literally $0.00. Filed my claim back in October after getting laid off from retail management, and been certifying weekly ever since. My payment status has been stuck on 'pending' for almost 3 weeks now. Is this $0 deposit their way of testing my bank info before sending the actual money? Anyone else experience this? Getting desperate since rent is coming up next week and I've been surviving on my savings which is almost gone...

Yeah I had that happen! The $0 deposit showed up on a Tuesday and then two days later my actual payment came through. It's just them verifying your account info is correct before sending the real money. Hang in there!

•Thanks for the info! Did you have to do anything after seeing the $0 deposit or did the real payment just come automatically?

•Nope didn't have to do anything at all, the real payment just showed up. But if you don't see anything in 3-4 days maybe try calling them.

•lol good luck calling them. I spent 3 weeks trying to get through before I found claimyr.com - only way I actually talked to someone 🙌

I found a way to get someone on the phone after dealing with the same issue! Used this service called Claimyr that waited on hold for me and then connected me to an actual agent when they picked up. Totally worth it because they confirmed my payment was being processed and fixed something in the system that was causing the delay. My funds hit my account the next day! Check it out: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - talking to a human was the only thing that got my money moving.

•Yeah it actually does! I was skeptical too but I was desperate after weeks of getting nowhere. The agent I spoke to fixed my issue in like 10 minutes. Best decision I made during this whole unemployment nightmare.

•I get the skepticism but after spending hours redialing and getting nowhere, having someone else deal with the hold time was a lifesaver. My $$ was stuck for weeks and got released right after talking to someone.

•i used it last month when my claim was pending for no reason. got a call back in about 45 mins with an actual human on the line who fixed everything. my payment was in my account the next day.

I got that $0 deposit too but didn't get any real money for another 2 weeks 😤 Had to keep calling and finally got someone who told me there was an "issue" with my claim that needed manual review. So annoying.

OK so here's whats actually happening - the $0 deposit is part of their verification process. The unemployment system uses what's called a "pre-note" or "pre-notification" to verify your account details before sending actual funds. This is standard ACH (Automated Clearing House) procedure for many financial institutions. If you've received this, it means: 1) Your banking info has been entered correctly in their system 2) They've initiated the payment process 3) The actual funds are typically processed within 2-5 business days after the test deposit However, if your claim is still showing as "pending" in the system, that's a separate issue. The $0 deposit just means your banking details are confirmed. I recommend: - Continue certifying weekly without fail - Check your message inbox on the portal daily - If no payment arrives within 5 business days, you need to contact them directly The fastest way to get this resolved is speaking to an actual agent. After multiple failed attempts calling directly, I used claimyr.com which got me connected to a real person who could look at my specific case. They identified a flag on my account that was holding up payments that I couldn't see on my end. Hang in there - the system is frustrating but persistence pays off.

•This is super helpful, thanks for the detailed explanation! I'll give it until Friday and then try to reach someone if nothing changes.

•what's this claimyr thing you mentioned? does it actually work?

•Yeah it does. It's basically a service that waits on hold for you and calls when they get a human. Saved me hours of frustration and my issue got fixed same day.

I've been on unemployment for 4 months now and never saw a $0 deposit, just got my regular payments. Maybe its something new theyre doing?

•I think they only do it if there's some kind of verification flag on your account. My partner never got one either but I did.

This happened to me back in December. The zero dollar deposit showed up and then nothing for a week. I was FREAKING OUT. Turns out there was an identity verification issue that I had no idea about. Had to upload my ID again even though I already did that when I applied. NY unemployment system is a complete disaster.

•Did they notify you about needing to upload your ID again or did you just figure it out yourself?

•They sent a message to my online account but didn't email me about it so I had no idea it was there. Definitely check your messages in the portal!

i work at a bank (not in NY but general banking rules apply) and the $0 deposit is standard procedure for setting up new direct deposits. its called a pre-notification or test transaction to verify the account exists and is active before sending actual money. good sign that your payments should start soon.

I swear the NY unemployment system is designed to be confusing on purpose so people just give up. Took me 9 weeks to get my first payment and that was only after I reached a supervisor who could actually see what was wrong with my claim. Keep pushing!

•Used claimyr.com after a friend recommended it. Got a call back with an agent who transferred me to a supervisor when I explained how long I'd been waiting.

Don't want to be that guy, but I'm coming up on month 2 of trying to get my benefits. The $0 deposit showed up TWO MONTHS AGO and still nothing. Called hundreds of times. Starting to think I'm just never going to see that money 😞

•Have you tried reaching out to your state representative? Sometimes they can help push things through faster.

•No I haven't tried that yet. Good idea, I'll look up who mine is

•Definitely try claimyr.com too. I was in the same boat until I actually got someone on the phone who could see that my identity verification was stuck in their system.

check your online account for any messages or "action required" notifications. sometimes they need additional info and dont tell you except in the portal. the $0 deposit usually means youre in the system but something is still holding up the actual payment.

If you've been certifying but status says pending for 3 weeks, theres definitely an issue they need to fix manually. You need to talk to someone ASAP. Try calling right when they open at 8am, or use that claimyr service others mentioned - my cousin used it last week and said it worked.

Maybe unpopular opinion but has anyone else noticed how the ny unemployment system seems to work perfectly fine when they're TAKING money back for overpayments but mysteriously breaks down when they need to pay US? 🤔

•Preach! 👏 They took $850 from me for an "overpayment" instantly but took 6 weeks to start my benefits

the $0 deposit happens to verify ur bank details r correct. don't panic! but also don't just sit back and wait. keep certifying weekly, check ur messages in the portal daily, and try to get a human on the phone to check if theres any issues with ur claim. it took me calling 37 times before i got through last month.
