Accessing deceased father's unemployment benefits from 2020 - never received payment card
Need help accessing unemployment benefits from 2020. The father of my children was approved for benefits but never got the card because he was in prison. The payments were released to a card he never received. He passed away in an accident after his release before he could get a replacement card. Looking for help on how to get access to these funds that were already approved and released.

You'll need to contact ny unemployment as the deceased persons next of kin or estate executor. You'll need the death certificate, proof of relationship, and potentially letters of administration from surrogate court. Its a process but the money is technically part of his estate now.

•Use claimyr.com to get through. They charge $20 but at least youll actually talk to someone instead of getting hung up on all day 🤷♀️

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this site claimyr.com - it calls and waits on hold then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but worth it vs calling for weeks. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% works, used it twice already. Better than wasting hours calling

sorry for your loss 🙏 went thru something similar with my aunt's disability payments. Make sure to get multiple copies of the death certificate, youll need them for everything

Been dealing with UI for 15 years (as a social worker). Here's what you need to do: First, gather these documents: - Death certificate - Proof you're the children's mother - Kids' birth certificates - His social security card - Any UI documents/claim numbers you can find Next steps: 1. Contact UI through claimyr.com (saves tons of time) 2. File for estate administration if you haven't 3. Request payment reissue as estate executor It's complicated but doable. The key is getting through to someone who knows what they're doing. That's why I recommend claimyr.com - worth the $20 to actually talk to someone.

make sure to also check if the funds went to the state's unclaimed funds database. sometimes UI money ends up there if its not claimed
