just make sure ur doing ur job search requirements too or they'll cut u off before the 26 weeks. u gotta prove ur looking for work every week
omg this is so confusing!! I just started working part time and reporting everything but now I'm scared I'm going to get disqualified too. How do you even calculate what you can earn without going over??
To avoid excessive earnings, take your weekly benefit rate and add $50. That's your maximum gross earnings for the week. Anything over that amount results in no benefits for that week. If you earn less than that, they'll reduce your benefits dollar-for-dollar after the first $50. So if your benefit rate is $300 and you earn $100, you'd get $250 in benefits that week ($300 - $50 = $250).
I had a nightmare trying to reach anyone at NYS Department of Labor about my denial. Spent hours on hold just to get disconnected. Found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to a real person who explained exactly why I was denied and what I needed for my appeal. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Ended up being way easier than the endless phone tree.
The whole system is rigged against workers anyway. They'll deny you for breathing wrong then make you jump through hoops to prove you deserve benefits you already paid into. Document everything but don't get your hopes up - they rarely overturn these decisions even when you're obviously right.
wait so you can really refuse jobs that pay less?? I thought you had to take whatever you could get or they'd cut off your benefits. this is good to know
The whole unemployment system is so confusing and they make it seem like you're doing something wrong for even filing. I've been dealing with issues for months and every time I call I get hung up on or transferred to nowhere. It's like they don't want to help people who actually need the benefits they paid into.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor for any final questions about your claim, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me reach an agent when I couldn't get through the regular phone lines. Check out claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I needed to clarify some things before my benefits ended.

•Thanks, I'll check that out. I do have a question about my final payment that I haven't been able to get answered through the regular channels.

Just whatever you do dont lie about the dates or try to hide the gap. HR departments can verify employment history easily now. Be upfront about being laid off, mention any productive activities during the unemployment period, and emphasize that you're ready to get back to work. Most reasonable employers will understand that good people sometimes get caught up in layoffs.
