look the unemployment system has always been messed up but its better than having nothing at all. i went through this same stuff last year with the overpayments and adjudication BS but eventually it all worked out
OMG yes! The stress of dealing with NYS Department of Labor is worse than being unemployed sometimes. I had panic attacks every time I had to file my weekly claim because I was so worried about making a mistake.
I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my partial claim and their phone lines are always busy. It's so frustrating when you need help understanding the system and can't reach anyone!
I had the same problem until someone told me about Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents by calling for you. I used it last month when my claim got stuck in adjudication and actually got connected to someone within a few hours. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way better than spending all day hitting redial!
ugh the NYS Department of Labor system is such a pain though. took me forever to get through when i applied last year and then they put my claim in adjudication for no reason
If you run into issues reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor by phone, I used claimyr.com last time I needed to talk to an agent. They have this system that calls you back when they get through instead of you sitting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really saved me a lot of frustration.
One thing to keep in mind - you'll need to certify for benefits every week and meet the job search requirements. That means applying to at least 3 jobs per week and keeping a log of your search activities. The NYS Department of Labor takes this seriously so make sure you're actually looking for work, not just going through the motions.
I got unemployment last year and it was fine until they randomly decided I was overpaid and wanted $2,000 back! Turns out I had reported everything correctly but there was some computer glitch. Took months to sort out. So yeah it can be 'easy' to get benefits but be prepared for random problems that make no sense.

Your former employer is trying to make you feel bad for using a system they were required to pay into. That's completely inappropriate. You earned the right to unemployment benefits through your work history. Don't let them guilt trip you for accessing benefits you're entitled to receive.

•Exactly! I didn't choose to lose my job, why should I feel bad about getting help while I look for a new one?
