The NYS Department of Labor system is so backwards! Why should employers even have a say in this? We pay into unemployment insurance through our paychecks but then they can just lie and try to block us from getting benefits. It's ridiculous that you have to worry about this when you're already stressed about losing your job.
Most employers don't contest unemployment claims unless they have a really good reason. It takes time and paperwork on their end too. If you were laid off due to business reasons, you should be fine. Just make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even if your case is in adjudication.
I had a similar situation where I couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor to ask questions about my claim. If you need to talk to someone about your specific situation, I found this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com that actually got me connected to a real agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. It was super helpful when I was stuck on the application questions.
omg this whole system is such a nightmare!! I've been waiting 3 weeks just to hear back about my application and when I call the phone number it just hangs up on me after being on hold forever. How are we supposed to survive while they take their sweet time deciding if we deserve help???
Honestly the whole system is confusing on purpose. I spent hours trying to figure out my calculation and even when I called NYS Department of Labor they couldn't explain it clearly. At least you got approved though - that's the hardest part these days with all the adjudication delays.
I totally get the frustration with reaching them by phone. When I had questions about my calculation, I actually used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI. Made the whole process way less stressful than trying to call myself.
Same boat here with the timing question. My payment status shows 'issued' but nothing in my account yet. It's been 2 days since it showed issued.

UGH the NYS Department of Labor system is SO SLOW! I waited 6 weeks for my first payment last year and they acted like that was totally normal. Meanwhile bills don't wait for their broken system to work properly!

Wait, do you get paid for the week you file or the week before? I'm confused about the timing and I don't want to mess something up that delays my money even more.

•You get paid for the week you're claiming, not the current week. So when you file your weekly claim on Sunday, you're claiming benefits for the previous week (Sunday through Saturday). The payment timing depends on when your claim gets processed.
