What's the best IRS phone number to actually talk to a human?
getting fed up trying to reach someone at the IRS. Been calling for weeks and keep getting automated messages or disconnected. Anyone know the best number to actually reach a human? Tried the main line but no luck.

The main IRS number is 1-800-829-1040. Call between 7am-7pm local time. When you call, do NOT follow the first prompt. Instead: press 1 for English, then 2, 1, 3, 2, don't enter SSN, then 2, 4. This bypasses most of the automated stuff.
