IRS Live Agent Phone Numbers - How to Actually Get Through
I've been trying to get through to the IRS for weeks. Every time I call I get the automated message saying their too busy and to call back later. Anyone know the best number and time to call to actually get a live person? Getting desperate here

The best number is 1-800-829-1040. Call exactly at 7am EST when they open. Press 1 for English, then 2 for tax questions, 1 for questions about a form, then 3 for all other questions, then 2 for all other questions, finally press 4 for all other topics. DO NOT enter your SSN when prompted - this usually gets you to a human faster.

ā¢Keep trying! Mondays and Tuesdays are usually the busiest. Try Wednesday-Friday

Instead of playing phone tag with the IRS, I'd recommend using taxr.ai - it costs $1 but analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on with your account and if you actually need to call them. Saved me hours of hold music lol https://taxr.ai

ā¢you upload your transcript and it uses AI to break down everything - tells you about delays, adjustments, when to expect refund etc. way better than waiting on hold

dont bother calling the main line its impossible. Use their tax advocate service: 1-877-777-4778

Been in the same boat for 3 months. The trick is to call your local IRS office instead of the main number
