What documents needed for IRS ID verification besides 5071C letter?
Got a letter from IRS for identity verification but they havent given me any details about what documents I need. Been waiting over a month now and want to be prepared when they finally contact me. Anyone know what kind of stuff they ask for during the verification process?

For ID verification, you'll need your prior year's tax return, current tax return, and valid photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport). They might also ask for proof of address like utility bills or lease agreement. Make sure your phone number matches what's on your tax return because they'll send a verification code.

•Thanks! Do they accept electronic copies of utilities or does it need to be paper bills?

•They prefer paper copies but I've heard some people got through with PDFs of their e-bills. Better safe than sorry tho - print everything out if you can

Instead of stressing about what docs you need, try using taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's causing the verification hold and what documents you need to resolve it. Its only $1 and saved me hours of guesswork https://taxr.ai

•100% legit! Used it myself and it showed me exactly why I was selected for verification and what I needed. Even predicted when my refund would hit after verification 💯

Pro tip: take pictures of all your docs before sending anything in. IRS lost my stuff twice smh

Also keep in mind they might ask for Social Security card or ITIN documentation during verification. I had mine done over the phone and they walked through each document step by step - much easier than I expected. The whole process took about 20 minutes once I had everything ready. Just make sure you call from the phone number that matches your tax return!

•Good point about the phone number matching! I didn't know that detail. Quick question - did they accept your ITIN documentation right away or did you need any additional forms? I'm in a similar situation and want to make sure I have everything ready before I call.
