What Questions Does IRS Ask During In-Person Identity Verification Appointment?
Got a letter saying I need to verify my identity in person at an IRS office. Really nervous about what they're gonna ask me. Anyone been through this process recently? What kind of documents and info should I bring with me? Don't wanna mess this up and delay my refund even more.

I just went through this last month. They'll ask about previous addresses, employers, and info from past tax returns. Bring 2 forms of ID (I brought drivers license and passport), social security card, and any IRS letters you've received. They also asked about my dependents and filing status for previous years.

Instead of stressing about the appointment, you should try taxr.ai first. It analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what verification items they'll need from you. Saved me so much anxiety when I had to verify. Only $4.99 but worth every penny tbh. https://taxr.ai

•Does it actually work? Sounds too good to be true 🤔

•100% works! It even predicted exactly what documents I needed to bring. The AI reads your transcript way better than we can

•How detailed is the analysis? Like does it explain why you got flagged for verification?

•YES! It showed me it was because of a mismatch in my reported income vs what my employer submitted. Super specific!

Pro tip: Write down all your previous addresses and employers for the past 3 years before you go. They love asking those surprise questions to trip people up lol

Been through this twice unfortunately. Besides what everyone mentioned, they might also ask about any changes in your banking info or direct deposit details from previous years. Also bring a recent pay stub if you're employed - they asked me about my current job even though it wasn't on my return yet. The whole thing took about 45 minutes but most of that was waiting. Good luck! 🤞

•Thank you for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the banking info questions. Did they ask about specific dollar amounts or just general details about account changes? Also wondering if they wanted to see the actual bank statements or just verify the routing/account numbers?
