Verified ID in Person at IRS Office - When Will My Transcript Update?
Finally got through the identity verification hurdle yesterday like clearing the first level of a video game. Had to physically go to the IRS office (felt like crossing into a different dimension) to verify my identity for our first joint filing as newlyweds. The agent said everything looks good, but my transcript is still showing no updates. Anyone know how long it takes for the system to process this? It's like waiting for software to install with no progress bar. Just wondering when I should expect to see movement on my transcript or get a DDD. Working together with you all to crack this mystery!

ID verification updates typically take time to process through IRS systems. Here's what you can expect: • 9-21 days for your transcript to update after in-person verification • System updates usually happen overnight on weekdays • Transcript updates generally happen before WMR shows changes • You'll likely see codes 570/571 appear first • DDD will follow within 1-2 cycles after verification clears It's frustrating but normal. The in-person verification puts you ahead of mail verification folks at least.

Oh my gosh THANK YOU for this breakdown! I'm always so nervous about these things! Do you know if the 9-21 days are business days or calendar days? I've been checking my transcript literally every 4 hours and I'm driving myself crazy! 😫

Thanks for this. Helpful. Been waiting 12 days. Good to know timeframe.

I went through this exact situation last month. Here's what happened for me: 1. First, I verified in person at my local IRS office on March 3rd 2. Nothing happened for about 11 days - transcript showed no updates 3. On day 12, I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript which had finally updated 4. The tool explained that my verification had processed successfully and identified the exact codes appearing 5. It correctly predicted I would receive my refund within 7-10 days 6. My direct deposit arrived exactly 8 days later The relief I felt when I finally understood what was happening on my transcript was incredible. The IRS verification process is quite efficient once completed, but the systems take time to sync up.

I've heard mixed things about these transcript readers. How do you know it's giving accurate information? I've been filing taxes for 15 years and these codes aren't that complicated once you learn them.

OMG taxr.ai was a lifesaver for me too! My transcript was full of weird codes after ID verify and I was freaking out. The IRS website definitions made zero sense but taxr explained everything in plain English. Saved me from panic-calling the IRS hotline 50 times lol!

Um, is it safe to use? I'm a bit worried about putting my transcript information into a third-party site... does it store your data or anything?

I had the same ID verification dance with the IRS last month. My transcript updated exactly 14 days after my in-person verification. It was like watching paint dry, but with more tax implications! 😂 When it finally updated, I got codes 971 (Notice Issued) and 571 (Resolved Prior Issue) on the same day, then code 846 (Refund Issued) appeared 5 days later. The technical reason for this delay is that the verification confirmation has to propagate through multiple IRS database systems - first their identity management system, then to the return processing pipeline, and finally to the refund issuance system.

This is really reassuring to hear! The IRS website (irs.gov/refunds) says most refunds are issued within 21 days of filing, but doesn't clearly explain how verification affects this timeline. Did you notice if your WMR tool updated before or after your transcript showed changes?

I was probably in a somewhat similar situation last month. Had to verify my identity and then waited... and waited... and waited some more. After about 10 days with no updates, I possibly got a bit impatient and decided to try Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to actually speak with an IRS agent. It might have been one of my better decisions - got connected in around 15 minutes when I had previously spent hours trying to get through. The agent was able to confirm my verification had been processed but was still working through their system. At least I knew things were moving forward, which gave me some peace of mind during the waiting game.

Based on current IRS processing patterns, you should see transcript updates in exactly 7-21 days after in-person verification. I track these timelines carefully, and in-person verifications are processing faster than mail verifications right now. For the 2024 filing season, the average update time after in-person verification is 9.3 days. I'd recommend checking your transcript every 72 hours rather than daily - the system typically updates in batches on Monday and Thursday nights. If you don't see updates by day 15, that might indicate a secondary review is happening.

Is there a reason why the IRS batch processes on Mondays and Thursdays specifically? I've always wondered if there's some logic behind their update schedule or if it's just how their legacy systems were designed to operate?

Be careful about relying too heavily on immediate updates. According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.5.6.4.35.1, identity verification resolution can take up to 9 weeks to fully process through all systems in certain cases. While most verifications resolve more quickly, there's no guaranteed timeline. Per IRM 21.5.6.4.35.3(2), 'Advise taxpayers that account actions resulting from identity verification may not be immediately visible on transcripts.' I'd suggest patience and avoiding multiple contacts with the IRS during this waiting period.

My verification took only 5 days to show up on my transcript, compared to my sister's which took nearly 3 weeks. It's like how some people get through TSA PreCheck in minutes while others wait in line forever with the same status. The difference? I verified at a major IRS office in a metropolitan area, while she verified at a smaller satellite office. The larger offices seem to have direct connections to the main processing centers, while smaller offices might batch-send verifications. Either way, you're still way ahead of the people who had to verify by mail - those poor souls are waiting 6-8 weeks for updates.

I had a cycle code of 20241705 appear exactly 8 days after my in-person ID verification. Look specifically for Transaction Code 971 followed by 571 on your Account Transcript - these indicate verification processing. The 971 code means they sent you a verification notice (which you already addressed by going in person), and the 571 code means that issue is now resolved. Once those appear, you're typically 5-10 days from seeing an 846 Refund Issued code with your direct deposit date.
