ID Verification Passed - They Said Up to 9 Weeks for DDD?! Anyone Get Theirs Sooner?
Ok so I did the verification process and I passed, they said it can take up to 9 weeks šā¦ tell me yall seen action way sooner than this please!!!!!! I started off with a blank transcript and it saying my return wasn't processed yet I verified over the phone. How soon did y'all get a DDD? This is our first time filing jointly since getting married and I'm stressing about the timeline tbh.

Last year I was in a similar boat! Had to verify my identity in early March, and they told me the same thing about waiting up to 9 weeks. I was checking my transcript literally every single day (sometimes twice š). For me, it only took about 17 days after verification before I saw movement. My transcript updated first, then WMR updated like 2 days later, and I had my refund about 5 days after that. So all in, it was way less than the 9 weeks they quoted me. Have you checked if you have any credits that might delay things? That can make a difference too.

Did you have any special credits or deductions on your return? That can make a huge difference compared to a simple W-2 only return. The 9 weeks is basically their worst-case scenario timeline, kind of like when Amazon says delivery will take 5-7 days but it shows up in 2.

I'm wondering if the verification was done through ID.me or through the IRS directly? I've heard the processing times might be different depending on which verification method was used... I'm in a similar situation and trying to understand what to expect.

I verified identity in February this year and transcript updated in 12 days exactly. Refund hit my account 8 days after that. The IRS loves to overquote timeframes so people don't flood their phone lines asking where their money is š Nine weeks is their CYA timeline, not the actual expected processing time.

This is super helpful information. I verified exactly 11 days ago and was starting to panic. I'll give it at least another week before I start getting too worried based on your timeline. Appreciate the detailed breakdown!

In my experience handling tax issues over the past several years, the 9-week timeline is their maximum estimate, not the average. Most identity verification cases I've seen (both personally and from friends/family) resolve within 2-4 weeks. Last year, my sister had to verify and saw transcript movement after just 10 days. If you verified by phone rather than online, that can sometimes be faster since a human has already reviewed your information. Have you checked your account transcript rather than just the return transcript? Sometimes that shows pending refund information before the return transcript updates.

I'm going through this exact situation right now! Had to do ID verification on March 12th and my transcript is still showing N/A for 2023. The IRS hotline was completely useless - kept getting the high call volume message and disconnecting me. I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) after someone here recommended it, and got through to an actual IRS agent in about 25 minutes. The agent confirmed my verification was processed successfully and said my return was just moving through normal processing. She mentioned 3-4 weeks is more typical after verification, not the full 9 weeks. Has anyone else called to check their status after verification?

I had to verify my identity last tax season after getting a letter from the IRS. According to the IRS website (which I spent hours reading through), the 9-week timeline is their official stance, but many returns are processed much faster. My timeline was: Day 1: Completed phone verification Day 14: Transcript updated with processing date Day 21: 846 code appeared with direct deposit date Day 23: Money in account So about 3 weeks total for me. The key is watching for those transcript updates - they usually happen overnight Wednesday into Thursday or Friday into Saturday from what I've observed.

Listen, I was in EXACTLY your situation last month. Blank transcript, had to verify by phone, the whole thing. I was freaking out because I needed that money for car repairs. After verifying, I used taxr.ai to monitor my transcript because it explains what all those weird codes actually mean in plain English. It spotted the first movement on my transcript before I even noticed it changed from N/A, and predicted my deposit date accurately. Took 18 days total from verification to money in my account. The 9 weeks thing is just them covering their asses.

According to IRS Internal Revenue Manual section 21.5.6.4.35.3, identity verification cases should be resolved within 9 weeks, but the actual processing time target is much shorter. They quote the maximum timeframe to manage expectations, but the IRS is actually required to process these cases within 30 days when possible. I've observed that about 70% of verification cases are resolved within 3-4 weeks, with only complex cases or those with additional issues taking the full 9 weeks. Your blank transcript is normal immediately after verification - the system needs time to reactivate your return processing.

This matches what happened with my return. I verified on February 23rd, 2024, and my transcript updated on March 15th. Refund was deposited on March 20th. So that's about 3.5 weeks total from verification to money in my account.

Is there any difference in processing time if you claimed the Earned Income Credit? I verified two weeks ago and still have nothing showing on my transcript, but I did claim EITC this year.

There are actually a few factors that might affect your timeline after verification: 1. The type of credits you claimed (EITC/CTC generally take longer) 2. Whether you filed electronically or by paper (e-file is faster) 3. Whether your return had any other compliance flags 4. The current IRS backlog situation I would say, based on what I've generally seen, most people who verify their identity see movement within 3-4 weeks, though it can certainly be faster. The 9-week timeline is probably their worst-case scenario estimate for the most complex situations. If you're approaching week 5 with no movement at all, that would be when I'd consider reaching out to the IRS again.

This is helpful information, but I'm curious: ā¢ Does filing status make a difference? (Single vs. Joint) ā¢ Is there any way to check if there are other issues besides ID verification? ā¢ Do you know if amended returns after verification restart the clock completely?
