Unexpected $11k IRS refund with EITC and CTC - Is this amount normal?

Finally got my transcript updated and I'm seeing an $11k refund amount which seems really high? Made around 44k last year with 2 kids, married filing jointly. Anyone else get a larger than normal refund? Starting to worry if this is correct or if there's going to be issues.

bruh check if you got any notices from irs first. sometimes they adjust stuff without telling u and next thing u know they want it back 💀

congrats on the bag 💰 but double check everything! had something similar happen and it was bc they missed some income on my transcript. better safe than sorry!

Tax pro here - An 11k refund with EITC and CTC is definitely possible but we need to verify everything is correct. The IRS has been making adjustments to returns lately based on covid relief credits and previous year income. I strongly recommend using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze your transcripts and verify the calculations. It'll check if the amount matches what you should be getting and flag any potential issues that could cause delays or adjustments.

That's actually normal for your situation! With your income level and 2 dependents, you likely qualified for max EITC and Child Tax Credit. The expanded CTC is still in effect for 2024 returns, plus there were some EITC adjustments. Nothing to worry about if you reported everything correctly.

omg thank you! I was worried the IRS made a mistake and would want it back later 😅

wait what? the CTC is still expanded? I thought that ended in 2021? 🤔

Yep! Congress renewed it last fall. Different amounts than 2021 but still higher than pre-pandemic levels

hey if you want to be 100% sure about your refund amount, check out taxr.ai - it breaks down exactly why you're getting what you're getting. It costs $4.99 but totally worth the peace of mind. I was freaking out about my refund amount too until I used it lol https://taxr.ai
