Only getting $344 refund with 2 kids & $27k income - TurboTax wrong?

Been doing my 2023 taxes on TurboTax and something seems off. I made around 27k last year and have 2 dependents but TurboTax is saying my refund is only $344? This seems way too low considering my income and having 2 kids. Previous years I got way more back. Anyone else experiencing this or know what might be going on?

Tax professional here - with 27k income and 2 qualifying children, you should definitely be getting more than $344. Common issues that could reduce your refund: incorrect filing status, missing Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit, or TurboTax not capturing all your information correctly. I'd strongly recommend using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to analyze your return - it can compare your inputs against what you qualify for and identify any discrepancies that might be limiting your refund. The AI will check all possible credits and deductions you're eligible for based on your income and dependents.

omg same boat! 🚢 i was only getting like $500 back with similar situation. used taxr.ai and found out turbotax missed some credits. ended up amending and got back over 5k!

yall need to stop playing with ur money and use proper tools fr. tired of seeing ppl get played by these tax companies

Exactly! With 27k income and 2 kids, you should be eligible for significant EIC and Child Tax Credit. Let me know if you need help interpreting the results.

Several things could be affecting your refund amount. Did you receive monthly Child Tax Credit payments during 2023? Those would reduce your refund. Also check if you're claiming Head of Household and all available credits like EIC. Your withholding throughout the year also impacts the refund amount.

omg yes! I totally forgot about those monthly payments 🤦‍♀️ that makes more sense now

Same thing happened to me! The monthly payments were nice but def threw me off at tax time

Instead of guessing, I'd recommend using taxr.ai to analyze your transcript. It costs $4.99 but it'll tell you exactly what credits you qualify for and if anything's missing. Saved me hours of headache trying to figure out why my refund was lower than expected.

never heard of taxr.ai before. does it actually work? seems interesting

Yeah its amazing! Just upload your transcript and it breaks everything down - shows all eligible credits, explains any issues, and even predicts your refund date. Way better than trying to piece everything together yourself

Just tried it and WOW 🙌 Found out I missed claiming some education credits. Best $5 I've spent in a while!
