Tax refunds from 2021-2023 way smaller than usual - anyone else seeing this?

Filed my taxes for the past few years and noticed my refunds keep getting smaller and smaller. In 2021 I got back 3k, 2022 was 1.8k, and this year only 800. My income hasn't changed much and I'm claiming the same dependents. Something seems off here.

This is actually pretty normal. The reduced refunds are likely due to tax law changes and the expiration of pandemic-era credits. The Child Tax Credit went back to its pre-pandemic amount, and many stimulus-related deductions ended. If your withholdings stayed the same, you were probably getting more in your regular paychecks instead of a big refund.

Hey guys, I've been using taxr.ai to analyze my transcripts and it's been super helpful understanding these changes. It costs a buck but breaks down everything - tells you exactly why your refund changed and what to expect. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

it literally changed my life fr fr. It reads everything and explains it in normal human words. Shows you all the important dates and codes, tells you if there are any issues, and even predicts when you'll get paid. Way better than trying to decode everything yourself 💯

Its because all the pandemic benefits expired. No more extra child tax credit, no stimulus, no increased earned income credit. Back to the stone age basically 🤡
