2021-2023 Tax Returns Showing Drastically Lower Refunds - Anyone Else Experiencing This?

I've noticed my refunds have been getting smaller and smaller. Back in 2021 I was getting around 5k, now im barely hitting 1.5k with similar income and deductions. Something seems off but maybe im missing something? Anyone else seeing lower refunds these past couple years?

Tax law changes are likely the culprit. The pandemic-era tax benefits like expanded Child Tax Credit and Recovery Rebate Credits have expired. Plus, many employers adjusted their withholding tables, which means less tax being withheld throughout the year, resulting in smaller refunds. This isn't necessarily bad - it means you're keeping more of your money throughout the year instead of giving the IRS an interest-free loan.

Exactly! Check your paystubs from 2021 vs now. You'll probably notice a difference.

Hey guys, I actually found this really helpful tool called taxr.ai that breaks down all these changes and explains exactly why your refund amount changed. It costs $1 but totally worth it - shows you everything from tax law changes to how your withholdings affect your refund. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Is it legit? How does it work with the transcripts?

Super legit! You just upload your transcript and it analyzes everything - explains all the codes, shows why your refund changed, even predicts when you'll get paid. Way better than trying to decode everything yourself

Talk to your HR department, they can help you adjust it. Or use the IRS withholding calculator on their website

This! I'd rather have my money throughout the year than wait for a big refund 💅
