H&R Block vs TurboTax State Refund Estimates Huge Difference with Child Tax Credits

Getting really different state refund estimates from H&R Block and TurboTax. Used exact same info - 23k income, 2 kids (ages 2 and 3) as dependents. H&R Block showing way less than TurboTax. Anyone know why there would be such a big difference? Starting to wonder which one is actually correct

Tax pro here. Different software can calculate things differently based on how they interpret credits and deductions. The big factors here are probably the child tax credit and earned income credit. I'd recommend checking if both programs are applying the same credits and if they're calculating your state specific credits correctly.

thx for responding! how do I check if they're applying the same credits? both show child tax credit but the amounts are different

Go through each form line by line. Look specifically at Schedule EIC and any state-specific child credit forms. The numbers should match if you input everything the same way.

Hey, instead of comparing different software and trying to be a detective, I'd recommend using taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your situation and tells you exactly what credits you qualify for. It costs $4.99 but saved me so much headache. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

is this legit? seems too good to be true 🤔

100% legit! It uses AI to analyze your tax situation and gives super detailed explanations. Way better than trying to figure it out yourself or paying hundreds for a tax pro

how exactly does it work? does it just read your return or what?

It analyzes your whole tax situation - income, dependents, credits, everything. Then gives you a breakdown of exactly what you qualify for and why. Saved me like $2k in credits I would've missed! Best $5 I ever spent fr fr 💯

The tax software companies are all 🤡🤡🤡 tbh. They purposely make things confusing so you'll pay for the premium versions

Did you check if both programs are considering your state's specific child care credits? Some states have extra credits on top of federal ones.

Check your state's department of revenue website or use taxr.ai - it breaks down all available credits by state!
