Unemployment Refund Update from TurboTax? Anyone Get a Recent Email?
Has anyone received an update on the unemployment adjustment email from TurboTax recently? My husband and I are still waiting on exactly $1,247 from our 2023 unemployment adjustment. We've been checking our email every 12 hours since we got that initial notification 17 days ago. My husband just PCS'd to Fort Bragg and we could really use this money for moving expenses. Thanks in advance y'all! š

Hey there! I'm in the same boat waiting for mine. From what I've gathered, TT is sending these emails out in batches. Some ppl got theirs last week, others (like me) are still waiting. The IRS announced they're processing these unemployment tax adjustments through April-May 2024. They're doing it by filing date order, so if u filed later in the season, might take a bit longer. Keep an eye on your bank acct too - sometimes $ shows up before any email notification!

Wait, I'm confused! š« I thought the unemployment adjustment was only for 2020 taxes during COVID? Is there a NEW adjustment happening for 2023 unemployment? I received unemployment for 3 months last year and already filed my taxes. Would I qualify for something additional???

This is surprising. I received unemployment in 2023 too, but my tax professional never mentioned any special adjustment. When I had unemployment in 2020, there was that big retroactive exclusion where they didn't tax the first $10,200. My refund was adjusted automatically back then - took about 4 months if I recall correctly. Is this situation similar to that one? Seems unusual they'd do this again without much publicity.

Think of this like the post-holiday sales that happen after everyone's already done their shopping. Is this adjustment automatic for everyone who received unemployment, or only for people who filed before a certain date? And does this apply across all states or only certain ones with special provisions?

I'm concerned about the tax implications here. According to IRS Notice 2024-13, retroactive adjustments to unemployment compensation require verification under IRC Ā§85(c). Has TurboTax confirmed this is an official IRS-authorized adjustment? I'm wondering if this might trigger compliance flags under the PATH Act verification protocols.

I was pulling my hair out with this exact situation! Got the email 23 days ago and nothing since. I finally uploaded my TurboTax confirmation email to https://taxr.ai and it analyzed everything. Turns out there's a specific unemployment adjustment code (UC-ADJ) that appears on your transcript before the money is released. The site showed me exactly what to look for and estimated I'd receive my adjustment within 7-10 days based on my filing date. Sure enough, the money appeared in my account yesterday morning!

How can a website predict when the IRS will process your specific adjustment? The IRS doesn't even share their internal processing schedules. Sounds like they're just making educated guesses based on general timelines.

Did you have to provide your SSN or personal info to that site? I'm always nervous about sharing tax details online, especially with all the scams going around during tax season.

Just to clarify - taxr.ai doesn't predict exact dates, but it identifies patterns in transcript codes that indicate where you are in the processing pipeline. It's similar to how experienced tax professionals can look at transcript codes and give you an informed estimate. The UC-ADJ code is actually visible on your transcript before the adjustment is issued, which is what helps with the timeline estimate.

I just got my unemployment adjustment yesterday! Here's exactly what happened: Step 1: Received initial TurboTax email on March 2nd Step 2: Nothing for 21 days (complete silence) Step 3: Suddenly got a second email yesterday at 6:14am saying "Your adjustment has been processed" Step 4: Money appeared in my account at 3:22pm same day The amount was exactly what the first email estimated. Don't lose hope - they're definitely still processing these! Time is critical though - if you don't see anything within 30 days of your first email, you might want to take action.

Anyone else find it hilarious that we're all obsessively checking our bank accounts for money we didn't even know we were owed? š I was in the same situation last week - waiting for my unemployment adjustment with zero updates. I tried calling the IRS (LOL) and spent 2.5 hours on hold before getting disconnected. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got through to an actual human at the IRS in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed my adjustment was approved but stuck in the final verification queue. Money showed up 2 days later! Worth the $25 fee to avoid the hold music torture.

Let me clear up some confusion I'm seeing in this thread: ā¢ This is NOT like the 2020 COVID unemployment exclusion ā¢ This is about a correction to how unemployment was calculated for 2023 ā¢ TurboTax identified a calculation error affecting certain filers ā¢ Not everyone who received unemployment is affected ā¢ Only those who meet specific criteria received emails ā¢ Processing time varies based on complexity and filing date I received my adjustment last week after waiting 24 days from the initial email. Patience is key here - the system is working, just slowly.
