TurboTax Refund Advance Failed - SBTG Shows No Account Found

I'm feeling like I'm stuck in tax refund purgatory right now. Filed through TurboTax and had my fees taken out of my refund. I opted into their 5-day early refund thing (like choosing express shipping instead of standard delivery for my money), but today I got a message saying it couldn't be expedited. Called TurboTax and they told me to check the SBTG website, but when I tried looking up my info there, it's like I'm a ghost - "no account found." I need this refund for some medical bills that are piling up like dirty laundry. Anyone else floating in the same boat? This waiting game is worse than sitting in a doctor's office when they're running 2 hours behind schedule.

This is happening to a lot of people right now. The SBTG system (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) handles the refund advances and fee deductions for TurboTax. When you see "no account found," it usually means your return is still being processed by the IRS and hasn't been released to SBTG yet. Their system only shows accounts that are actively being processed. I'd check your IRS transcript directly. That will tell you the actual status of your refund.

Thank you for explaining this! I've been checking SBTG every day since March 18th and was getting really worried. Glad to know this is somewhat normal and not just happening to me.

I was possibly in a somewhat similar situation last tax season. It seems that the SBTG system occasionally has these kinds of glitches, especially during peak filing periods. What I found particularly helpful was using https://taxr.ai to analyze my tax transcript. It might be worth checking if your transcript is available, and if so, the tool could potentially help interpret what's actually happening with your refund. It might show if there are any holds or if it's simply still in processing. I was quite relieved when I finally understood what was happening with my return.

I've seen people mention this transcript tool before. In my experience from previous years, the IRS website shows the same information if you just know where to look. Did it actually tell you something you couldn't find yourself?

Have you verified your Return Transcript status through the IRS portal? SBTG account generation typically occurs only after the IRS has approved and initiated the refund disbursement process. Without confirmation in the SBTG system, it's highly probable that your return is still in the IRS processing queue, which would explain the absence of SBTG account visibility at this juncture.

Have you tried calling the IRS directly to check on your refund status? Many people don't realize how difficult it can be to get through to an actual person there, right? I was in a similar situation last year and spent days trying to reach someone. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my refund was just delayed due to verification. Wouldn't it be worth the peace of mind to know exactly what's happening instead of guessing?

Does this service actually work? I tried calling the IRS last week and gave up after being on hold for 2+ hours. How much does it cost to use?

I feel this so much. Spent 3 days trying to reach someone at the IRS last month. Wish I had known about this service then! Would have saved me so much frustration and anxiety waiting on hold.

Does this service just help you get through the phone queue faster? Or do they also help with resolving the actual tax issue? I'm wondering if it's worth it for someone who just needs basic status information.

I should mention that while this service can help you reach an agent, the IRS may still have limited information if your return is in early processing stages. Sometimes they can only confirm receipt.

Anyone know if SBTG is having tech issues rn? Been trying diff browsers and still getting the same "no acct found" msg. Starting to think it's on their end not mine?

Oh my goodness, I know EXACTLY what you're going through! This happened to me last year and I was so worried! 😫 The thing is, TurboTax and SBTG don't always communicate well with each other. I discovered that when the advance gets rejected, it automatically routes your refund back to normal processing. The good news is you'll still get your full refund, just not through the advance program! Don't panic - your money isn't lost, it's just taking the scenic route! Check your WMR (Where's My Refund) status on the IRS site instead. So happy I could help with this! 💕

Is there any official documentation from TurboTax that explains this process? I'd like to understand the exact workflow when an advance gets rejected.

Wait, so does this mean the fees still get taken out even though the advance didn't work? That doesn't seem fair! 😕

• Does this affect the overall timeline for receiving the refund? • Is there any notification sent when this happens? • Will the refund come directly from IRS instead? • Does this change anything about direct deposit information?

Here's what's happening with the TurboTax refund advance system: Step 1: You file through TurboTax and request the advance Step 2: TurboTax sends your return to the IRS Step 3: IRS processes your return and approves refund Step 4: IRS sends refund to SBTG Step 5: SBTG deducts TurboTax fees Step 6: SBTG either issues advance or sends remaining amount The problem is occurring at step 3. Your return is likely still being processed by the IRS, which means SBTG doesn't have an account for you yet because they haven't received anything from the IRS. I'm concerned that many filers don't realize that the "5-day early" option isn't guaranteed - it's contingent on approval. This is why you can't find your account on SBTG yet.

I'm in the exact same situation and checked my transcript exactly 6 times today. My cycle code is 20241405 and my processing date shows 04-15-2024, but there's no 846 code yet. Does this mean I'm still in step 3 of the process you outlined?

Check your email spam folder. Look for TurboTax notifications. They sometimes send updates there. Also try the TurboTax app. It may show different status. SBTG only creates accounts when refund is approved. No account means still processing. Call TurboTax again. Ask specifically about advance rejection reasons. Request supervisor if needed. Time is critical here.

The Refund Transfer (RT) product that TurboTax offers uses SBTG as the Transmitter Bank. When your advance application is declined, the system is supposed to automatically revert to standard processing, but there's a technical disconnect in their API that sometimes causes the "no account found" error. This doesn't mean your refund is lost - it just means the RT product configuration in their system hasn't properly registered yet. The IRS is still processing your return normally, and you'll receive your refund via your selected disbursement method, minus the TurboTax fees. The frustrating part is that neither TurboTax nor SBTG will take responsibility for this communication gap.

I had this exact same issue last month! Filed with TurboTax on February 8th, opted for the 5-day advance, then got the message saying it couldn't be expedited. SBTG showed nothing for me either. I called TurboTax and they just kept transferring me around. Finally, after about 2 weeks of checking daily, my refund suddenly appeared in my bank account - directly from the IRS, not through SBTG. The TurboTax fees were still taken out though. So basically what happened was the advance got declined, but instead of telling us clearly, they just quietly switched it to regular processing. You'll still get your refund, but it'll come on the normal timeline.
