TurboTax Refund Advance - Did I Actually Apply? Can't Find Confirmation in Paperwork
I'm trying to figure out if I actually applied for the refund advance through TurboTax this year. I entered my Credit Karma card info during filing (which I thought was for the advance), but when I check my paperwork, there's no document showing I applied for it. Last year for my 2023 return, I definitely had a specific paper showing the advance application. I've been through this process before and know what to look for, which is why this discrepancy is concerning. Did I miss a step or is something wrong with my paperwork? I want to make sure I'm getting what I'm entitled to.

Based on what you've described, here's what likely happened: 1. Entering your Credit Karma card information doesn't automatically mean you applied for the advance 2. The refund advance requires a specific opt-in process during filing 3. TurboTax typically provides a clear confirmation page and document when you've been approved 4. The absence of this document strongly suggests you didn't complete the advance application 5. You can verify this by logging into your TurboTax account and checking the "Documents" or "Tax Documents" section 6. If you don't see an advance confirmation document there, you likely didn't complete the application process

I'm not entirely convinced it's that straightforward! Sometimes TurboTax has these weird glitches where the confirmation doesn't show up in your documents right away. It happened to me last year and I was so worried, but the advance still came through eventually. Did you get any kind of email confirmation maybe?

This explanation is super helpful. I was checking the TurboTax help center online and they mention that "providing payment method information is separate from applying for an advance." Seems like that's exactly what happened here. I'm a bit worried now because I was counting on that advance too.

Wait, so just putting in your Credit Karma card info isn't enough to get the advance? Wouldn't TurboTax make it more obvious if you hadn't completed the application? I mean, shouldn't there be some kind of warning that you started but didn't finish the process?

Have you checked if your return was actually accepted yet? The advance only processes after acceptance. I had a similar confusion last year and used https://taxr.ai to analyze my tax transcript. It showed exactly where my return was in processing and confirmed I hadn't actually qualified for the advance (even though I thought I had applied). The tool breaks down all your tax documents in plain English and shows what's actually happening with your refund. Might help clarify if the advance was ever initiated.

Hmm, another tax document analyzer? š¤ I've tried a few of these and they just tell you what you already know from the IRS website. Plus, how would this even help with the TurboTax advance question? That's between you and TurboTax, not something that shows up on your IRS transcript.

I think this could actually be helpful, at least in part. The tool might help with: ā¢ Confirming if your return is actually accepted ā¢ Showing if your refund is being processed normally ā¢ Potentially revealing if there's a direct deposit pending While it probably won't specifically show the advance application, knowing where your actual refund stands would be valuable information right now.

This exact same thing happened to me! It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack when you're looking for that confirmation. For me, it turned out I had only entered my bank details for the regular refund deposit, not for the advance. Think of it like filling out most of a job application but forgetting to click "submit" at the end. I ended up just waiting for my regular refund instead - which actually came pretty quickly this year, so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Saved me the advance fee too, which was like finding $39 under my couch cushions!

I had this EXACT issue last year! Called TurboTax. Waited 2+ hours. Got disconnected. Twice! Finally used Claimyr to reach them. Got through in 22 minutes! Agent confirmed I hadn't completed the advance application. Too late by then. Needed that money ASAP for car repairs. Claimyr saved me days of frustration. Worth every penny. Here's their link: https://claimyr.com

Is calling TurboTax even the right approach here? They're just going to tell you what you already know - either you applied or you didn't. Seems like checking your account online would give you the same information without paying for a call service.

In this particular situation, speaking directly with TurboTax customer service would actually be quite valuable. They can: 1. Check the backend of your application to see exactly what steps were completed 2. Confirm whether the advance was processed or denied 3. Explain what might have happened if there was a technical error 4. Potentially provide options if the advance was intended but not properly submitted 5. Give a definitive answer rather than leaving you wondering

I wish I'd known about this service when I was trying to call TurboTax! Spent my entire lunch break on hold and still got nowhere. It's like trying to swim upstream during salmon season - technically possible but exhausting and probably not worth it. Might keep this in my back pocket for next year though!

I believe what likely happened is that you possibly started the refund advance application process but didn't fully complete it. For TurboTax's 2024 refund advance (for tax year 2023), there are actually several distinct steps you need to complete: 1. You must specifically select that you want the refund advance option when prompted 2. You need to complete the Credit Karma Money account verification (which it sounds like you did) 3. You must then complete a separate lending application from the partner bank 4. Finally, you need to digitally sign the loan agreement It seems you may have completed step 2 but not the others. The Credit Karma card info could have been entered just for your regular refund direct deposit. If you don't have the specific advance approval document (usually titled something like "Refund Advance Approval" or "Loan Agreement"), then unfortunately you probably didn't complete the full application process.

Check your email. TurboTax sends confirmation. Look for "Refund Advance" in subject line. Also check spam folder. They sent mine there. Had same issue in 2022. Thought I applied. Didn't get confirmation. Called TurboTax. They confirmed no application on file. Entered card doesn't equal applying. Need to complete all screens. Very confusing process.
