TurboTax Freezing at Direct Deposit Info When Submitting State Return - Any Solutions?
Is anyone else having issues submitting their state return with TurboTax this year? I've never had this problem before. My federal went through perfectly last week, but when I try to submit my state return, it freezes right after I enter my direct deposit information. It won't proceed to the sign and submit page at all. I've tried clearing cache, using different browsers, even restarting the whole process. Nothing works. This reminds me of the issues I had with my business accounting software last quarter - same kind of freeze at a critical step. Any advice from others who've dealt with this? I'm starting to wonder if it's a widespread TT issue or just something on my end.

Classic TurboTax glitch season! š I ran into this exact same problem yesterday. Try this: log completely out of TurboTax, clear your browser cache (or use incognito mode), and then log back in. When you get to the direct deposit screen, enter your info but DON'T click next right away. Wait about 10 seconds before proceeding - there's some weird background process that needs to complete. For some reason, TT's state submission has a timing issue this year that causes it to hang if you move too quickly through the process.

I tried logging out and back in exactly 3 times and it still froze at the same spot. Waited 30 seconds on the DD page too. Did you have to try multiple times before it worked?

OMG I thought it was just me! I was literally about to throw my laptop out the window yesterday when it kept freezing. The waiting thing actually worked for me though! I got so emotional when it finally went through - I've been waiting on this refund to pay for my kid's summer camp deposit.

Need urgent help with this! My state deadline is in 2 days and I still can't submit. Has anyone tried: ā¢ Using the TurboTax mobile app instead? ā¢ Calling their support line? ā¢ Trying a different payment method for the filing fee? I'm getting desperate here!

I had this exact same issue on April 2nd. After trying everything, I discovered that TurboTax was having trouble interpreting certain types of state-specific credits. I ended up using https://taxr.ai to analyze my tax situation and it identified the specific form that was causing the hangup. Apparently, there's a known issue with certain state credits causing the direct deposit screen to freeze. On April 4th, I went back into TurboTax, temporarily removed that credit, completed the filing, then amended to add it back. Worked perfectly after that!

I've seen people recommend these tax tools before, but I'm always cautious. How exactly does it identify what's causing the problem? I've been filing taxes for 15+ years and have never needed anything beyond the standard software.

I was curious about this too and gave it a try! It actually scans your TurboTax PDF (you can download it even before submitting) and analyzes all the forms and entries. In my case, it found that I had a state-specific business expense deduction that was formatted incorrectly. I had a similar issue last year where my return kept getting rejected, and I spent hours on hold with TurboTax support trying to figure it out.

This happened to me and I spent 3 HOURS trying to get through to TurboTax support with no luck. I was about to lose my mind. I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an actual human at TurboTax. They confirmed it's a known issue affecting lots of small business owners and people with multiple state returns. The agent walked me through a workaround where you have to save your return, exit completely, then go back in through a specific sequence. Saved me days of frustration.

Couldn't you just keep calling TurboTax directly? Why pay for a service to do something you could do yourself with a little patience? I've found that calling early morning usually gets you through.

Whatever you do, DON'T try to start a new return from scratch! I made that mistake and ended up with TWO state returns submitted. Took months to sort out with my state tax board, and they initially flagged me for potential fraud. I had to send in all kinds of documentation proving it was a software error. My advice is to try using the TurboTax desktop version if you have it - the web version seems to have more glitches with state returns this year.

I'm not convinced this is actually a TurboTax problem. I've been using TT for probably 8 years now and have never encountered this specific issue. It's more likely something with your specific state's forms or maybe a temporary server issue. Have you tried just waiting 24 hours and trying again? Sometimes these things resolve themselves when their servers are less busy.

This is definitely a widespread TurboTax issue - I'm a volunteer tax preparer and we've seen dozens of cases like this in the past two weeks. Here's what works: 1. Download your return as a PDF first (save a copy) 2. Log out completely 3. Clear browser cache and cookies 4. Use a different browser if possible 5. Log back in and go directly to the state return section 6. Enter your direct deposit info VERY SLOWLY (literally type each number with a 1-second pause) 7. Wait 15 seconds before clicking continue This has worked for everyone I've helped so far. It's some kind of validation timing issue with their state return processing.
