Transcript Still Not Updated - Filed 2/11, Accepted 2/19, ID Verified 2+ Weeks Ago
How long does it typically take for transcripts to update? Just checked mine again and still no update whatsoever. Filed 2/11, accepted 2/19, and completed ID verification over 2 weeks ago on 3/4. I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong or if this is normal? Need to plan for some upcoming care expenses and this waiting is making me nervous.

Transcript updates can be frustratingly inconsistent. Last year, I had a client whose transcript didn't update for nearly 6 weeks after acceptance, then suddenly appeared with a direct deposit date. This year, I've seen them update anywhere from 2-8 weeks after acceptance. The ID verification adds another layer - typically adds 9-21 days to processing time. Since you verified over 2 weeks ago, you're still within normal timeframes, especially considering the IRS is dealing with higher than normal verification cases this season.

Thanks for this info. I filed on February 15th and was accepted February 16th. Had to verify on March 1st. Still nothing on my transcript as of today April 2nd. Was starting to think something was seriously wrong.

This is helpful. Gives me perspective. Waiting is still frustrating. Will keep checking weekly now instead of daily.

I'm so tired of this waiting game! Did your client have to do anything special to get their refund after the 6 weeks or did it just magically appear? I'm going crazy checking WMR and transcripts every single day!!

According to the IRS operations page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're still working through a backlog. After ID verification, the IRS says to allow up to 9 weeks for processing, though it's usually faster. Have you checked the Where's My Refund tool at irs.gov/refunds? Sometimes that updates before transcripts do. Also worth checking whether your return has any credits that might put it under PATH Act review, which would delay processing until mid-February regardless of when you filed.

Could you clarify what specific credits trigger PATH Act holds? I claimed Child Tax Credit and Education Credits. Would either of those cause additional delays beyond the ID verification timeline?

Wait, 9 WEEKS after verification? The IRS representative told me 3 weeks when I verified! Is this information current for the 2024 filing season?

Thank you for sharing that link! I've been checking WMR every morning at 6am sharp hoping for movement. I'm trying to pay off a medical bill before it goes to collections next month, so this waiting is killing me!

I was in the exact same boat! Filed 2/8, accepted 2/15, had to verify ID on 3/1. My transcript finally updated yesterday (4/1) and WMR shows DDD for 4/5. Hang in there! For me it was exactly 31 days from verification to transcript update. Was checking like crazy bc I need $ for my kid's summer program deadline next wk. Almost gave up hope tbh.

After waiting 5 weeks with no transcript updates, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an IRS agent instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent confirmed my return was just in normal processing despite the lack of transcript updates, and that my ID verification was successful. Three days later my transcript finally updated with a DDD. Sometimes you just need to speak directly with someone to confirm everything's on track. I was impressed with how quickly Claimyr got me through - worth every penny to stop the anxiety of wondering.

I've heard about these IRS call services, but I'm not convinced they're necessary. Couldn't you have just called the IRS directly and waited? The IRS publishes their least busy call times on their website. Additionally, what specific information did the agent provide that you couldn't see yourself once the transcript updated?

Have you checked your account transcript rather than just the return transcript? Sometimes the account transcript will show pending actions even when the return transcript is still N/A. Look for codes like 570/971 which might indicate they need something from you. And don't worry, the IRS isn't ghosting you... they're just playing hard to get! 😂 But seriously, with ID verification already done, you should see movement within the next week or two. If not, you might want to call and confirm they actually processed your verification.

I think I might have been looking at the wrong transcript type? I'm not sure, honestly. I've been checking what I thought was the account transcript, but maybe I need to look somewhere else? I'm going to try this right now. Thanks for the suggestion!

I finally got my refund yesterday after a similar timeline! Filed on 2/13, accepted 2/14, had to verify my identity on 2/28, and my transcript didn't update until 3/30. Then I got my direct deposit on 4/1. It seems like the system is just really backed up this year, but things are moving, even if slowly. I was so worried something had gone wrong, but it all worked out eventually. Hang in there!

Be careful about relying too much on transcript updates. Last year my transcript never updated properly, yet my refund suddenly appeared in my bank account. The IRS systems are like an iceberg - what you can see online is just the tip, while all the actual processing happens beneath the surface. I called the IRS after waiting 8 weeks (it was like trying to get concert tickets for a popular band), and they told me there was a system glitch affecting the transcript display for certain returns. Not saying that's happening to you, but just because you don't see updates doesn't necessarily mean nothing is happening.
